How I Made 6-Figures With NetFlix and GameFly Offers Offline...

I was talking to someone else about how we crushed it with CPA offline when it dawned on me that other "offliners" may find this usefull too.

I did this with NetFlix and GameFly because those sell like hot cakes amongst college students. However, my methods can be adapted to work with most any offer..... in most any offline market.

So... a number of years ago, when NetFlix started their affiliate program through some of the CPA networks, we got lucky and one of the networks we were with (Copeac) had it.

So..... we hit it hard promoting to college kids.

I started with the town in which I reside, Eugene, as I live here AND it's a "college town" with a MASSIVE student populous.

Perfect.

I decided the best way to reach the college students was to "piggy back" with business who were ALREADY reaching them.

Pizza Delivery

Developed a campaign lovingly called "Pizza and a flick night". We allowed ANYONE who ordered a pizza to get a free 14 day trial of Netflix AT THE SAME TIME they placed their pizza order.

It took a bit of "leg work" to get that done but in the end, that campaign made tens of thousands of dollars for EVERYONE involved.

The University Bookstore

A part of the bookstore was a computer store. They retailed and serviced thousands of computers a year.

We made tens of thousands of dollars with them and Netflix by doing 2 things.....

We had Netflix FREE TRAIL offers everywhere in that store. Banners, flyers, "gift cards" stickers on packages, etc.

And here's a good one...... they did service. On ALL THE COMPUTERS they serviced, they'd load desktop shortcuts to varios university services like student email, the sports page and a few others.

By now you probably guessed what happens next..... we got them to add in a shortcut to our free trial landing page.

Misc stuff

We did other stuff too but the two methods above were our biggest players.
Why this Worked?

We identified businesses that already had distribution channels to reach our market in place. All we had to do was show them how we could increase their revenue without major expense or work on their part. We usually split commish with them.

Also......

Netflix wasn't advertising a FREE TRAIL.....I had to ask for that offer - and I got it..... making me and my partners the ONLY ones from whom a free trial could be had

And THATS a side lesson here: if you want to promote something but think you can crush it with tweaks to the offer..... ASK for those tweaks.

  • I think this IS the lesson. ASK and duplication.

Good for asking Ben, they were glad you did, I'm sure.

It shows the power of an idea executed and acted on, plus the testing concept which allows one to scale up.

Thanks for providing these lessons today, and the history lesson is good too, because, there will always be the next "Netflix" on the horizon.

PS. Remember AOL, they used to send out cd's by the millions. Got an idea to help them? I'm sure they would listen.

  • I love the way you put this business together and you saw the opportunity to bring together things which was intersting to students! I like these creative ideas!

The other learning point is to ASK! You made that step and you got the free trial from netflix... epic!

I will have a note on your post, its a huge value for finding new business opportunities!

    • Asking is HUGE. I have a couple UHD blog sites. I was using Amazon as the product source to begin with. I then saw that a major brand was implementing some of its product into one of those affiliate banner ad advertising deals. It took some time, but I finally got in contact with them directly, and worked out a deal.

Took me from making 7% all the way up to 20%. Because I am working with them directly I now have access to KILLER brand specific content, and more importantly content that hardly anyone one else uses. Simply one of the best moves I have ever made!

  • That's AMAZING!! Just curious do offline offers need a landing page? Or do you just leave your affiliate link on flyer?

    • Using this tactic, I personally would have a dedicated website for this. so www YOUROFFER. COM would not only be the website to go to BUT the url that the optin option was. so a single page website basically

    • Sent you a PM

You need a LANDING PAGE. That way you control the traffic AND you can test different angles like list building with it

      BIG AND.....

You can put Facebook code into that LP to retarget all that traffic using custom audiences. That's huge because now..... your offer "follows them around".
