When Cold Calling, You ABSOLUTELY Must Do This!

Check the time zone of the numbers you're calling, fool!

Some jackass from New York called my west coast number at 5:30 this morning.

Regardless of how great his offer was, he was shot down before the phone even rang.

Just a friendly tip for newbs using the phone. That job is difficult enough without tripping yourself up over a stupid mistake.

also never lead with "may I please speak to the person in charge of" or "may I please speak with the owner"

Another one quickly climbing my "ignore this fool" list is messing with the caller ID. If I see "Caller Unknown" or "Blocked" or similar, I'm not going to bother answering it. Same goes for spoofing the ID. Yesterday I supposedly got a call from myself on the line that was ringing.

Maybe you forgot you were on the phone when you called yourself!! LOL!
I wish there was a way to permanently block these spoofers...I'm getting an increasing amount of these BS calls on my cell...which is registered with the DNC.

Why not? I've been using that approach since 1993 and it works very well. I want to know exactly who's in charge of making buying decisions right away, otherwise I'd be wasting my time and theirs, right?

Of course, I also tell them exactly who I am, I tell them exactly what I do and I don't try to hide anything. My goal is to build repeat customers, so I want to be as honest as I can right out of the gate.

Years ago I accidentally called a lead in Alaska thinking that it was Arkansas. I felt really bad when he told me where I'd called, but the guy was actually pretty cool.

This map is actually funny. They have Alaska marked as AL instead of AK. No wonder people call poor those Alaskans at 5AM! But with those 24hr nights, they probably don't care...

Flip that around. Think of the poor Alabamian (?) whose phone rings at 2 AM, and is met with a pitch for some credit repair scam.

Best thing to do when cold calling is to greet warmly, openly identify yourself and specifically ask by name and position for the person you are trying to talk to..
After that things tend to go smoothly if you are prepared to introduce your business idea to them

I have had such calls too during awful hours. However, very often such calls are not for my local area and the person calling have no idea what the time is in my area. If you are hiring telemarketers make sure they check the local time. I agree with you.
