Is PPC a good option?

Hi all,

I'm a newbie to the AM landscape and would love to get some advice, if you don't mind.

I was wondering if anyone is running PPC ads that link directly to the website of whatever you are marketing/selling. If so, what are your results? Is it worthwhile? What would you suggest - PPC vs Blog vs Landing Pages?

Also i intend to do some blogging and put landing pages up but am not sure how soon my blogs will get decent traffic thus I've opted to try out some PPC (to start with) as the results will be more instant.

Can anyone share their experiences with me? What platforms do you use to sell your ads for self-help, dating? Which industries are most profitable and which affiliate programs are best to join?

A sincere thank you in advance.

PPC is the absolute worst starting point for newbies unless you've got money to burn. There are too many variables involved. The PPC market is determined by people who have learned to squeeze an ROI out of their bids. If you as a newbie manage to do that it will be pure luck, and that luck probably won't last long.

So take a few steps back and rely on Google for now until you learn the ropes.

I agree with DDDD and would add that there is a lot of good information in the PPC forum.

Avoid PPC now unless you know someone willing to give you profitable campaign information. I'm very much into PPC, among other media buying channels. You can run through $1,000 in an hour when testing multiple campaigns. And it takes many hours to make them profitable. Saying that, though, that's large scale. You can generally get in profit, if you know what you're doing, for a lot less. Upshot: learn some more before you dive into PPC marketing. It's tougher than it sounds. Not only to find profitable campaigns but to keep them.

Yeah you don't want to learn PPC on your own dime. If you're really interested, get certified in Analytics, AdWords (both certifications cost nothing from Google, and the study guides are freely available). Learn Wordpress and basic HTML/CSS and some scripting for automation stuff. You can learn everything free on Google. Apply for entry level PPC jobs and learn at an agency. Or, take what you learned and choose or create a product, then learn to promote it. Facebook ad clicks to an internal fan page are pretty cheap, and you can then promote a product on the page.

Don't do PPC as a beginner start from free sources and get your list going and then you could give PPC a try.

If you really want to give PPC a try though I would suggest going with mobile traffic since it is cheaper. Try Buzzcity.

Hey guys thx so much for your responses. I obviously failed to mention that I have been in digital mktg and doing ppc since 2006 running full out campaigns (lead gen; email mktg; social, paid, blogs etc) for many big brands and start ups in various industries including retail. However not as an affiliate or doing it on my dime. So yes im very familiar and experienced with ppc but have not used it as an affiliate marketer. Amd esp not in the dating or self help industries.

Thing is I am planning to do email mktg but it will take time growing my lists and will take time for a blog or website to get hits with organic traffic. Ppc results are more immediate but i dont want to burn out cash flow either. But i do have a cpl thousand to work with. So now that u know i have ppc experience what do you suggest? Any good resources online that i can learn in further to help get me started?

Guess im a little nervous and want to make as educated a decision i can... I recently started working for myself so i want to be wise with where and how i spend.

PPC as a beginner can be very costly, I learnt this the hard way.

Paid traffic however, can be effective, I would suggest solo ads.

I am using Udimi and am starting to build my list.

PPC is always a good idea if you know what your doing. PPC is the fastest method to use for testing, and also the fasted to generate income immediately.

90% of my revenue comes from FB ads, and for me, the results have far surpassed any other PPC options/methods.

You mentioned you have extensive experience in this field - So you should know that you're throwing money away if you're sending traffic straight to the offer page. The Ad copy and targeting does make a big difference in conversions, but you still have to hook them with a good landing page.

I've tested this a lot, with high volume targeted traffic. I'll give you an actual example from my personal results.

$250 daily spend @.04c a click = 6250 clicks. Sending those straight to the offer page, I'll end up with 4-5 sales at best.

Take those same 6250 clicks and send them to my lander, with my average ctr of 5-6% I can expect a little over 300 clicks to my offer. Average Cvr of 8% I'm looking at 20-25 sales. Those sales generate $700+, and that puts me right in the 250-300% ROI I'm always shooting for.

Of course my figures won't apply to everyone, especially in different markets and niches. I would suggest checking out FB ads, and I would keep testing different ads and targeting until you can get your CPC under .05c and your CTR above 6% (CTR from the FB ad, not from the lander). You could def. have success with CPC and CTR worse than I just quoted (depending on the offer and landing page of course) but if you want a good recipe for success, keep testing til you hit those.

If you have good information to apply to your PPC campaign to make it as cheap as possible, it could be profitable.

I would drive solo ads to a funnel. The traffic is mega targeted and less optimization compared to ppc. With solo ads find a good sellers, optimize your squeeze page to 40% and higher.

The absolute cheapest place to learn the "Art" of PPC is on FaceBook. Don't be shy and head over to the Social board and ask questions. How to target what a ad should look like, who to target etc.

You want to try and let 1000 people run across every change you make. If you are not getting 5%+ stop the campaign and change something up and then start again. $5.00 should get you AT LEAST 3 changes ( depending on your targeting )

I have fine tuned campaigns in as little as $20.00 and other times it took $50.00, but I end up with good solid traffic.

if you are a newbie then be cautious, because laser targeting the customer through ppc is a bit tricky, however still you can go for cheap ppc providers such as bing ads. They provide free $100 worth for ppc. You can try it.

Gone are the days of Google Adwords for affiliates promoting replicated sites, or any type of site for that matter with sparse content.

These days as far as PPC goes you could look at starting up a Microsoft Ad Center account (Yahoo/Bing ppc) or get your credit card ready and try your ppc luck inside Facebook.

    Happy bidding!
