Tracking Ad Testing/Changes

I've just gotten into paid traffic, and I'm having a lot of success. I have the tracking of revenue, expense, what ads convert, etc, but how do you keep track of what campaigns you've tweaked, when you fixed them, what you did, etc?
Do you just use a spreadsheet? Or a word document journal of sorts? I'm just wondering if there's an easier way than a big journal or spreadsheet. I feel like it could get messy and be hard to find different campaigns.
