    I don't sell web design but I do often give away impressive templates I have to some local business owners who need them for my advertising services. I had one who practically refused to take it without paying me, and several others who also suggested I was giving away too much. (not really I just clone the WP site onto their domain and upload my html PPC template). I do it for good will and to keep the client for my lead gen services.

    But if I were to want to sell websites or web design I would go at it from a different direction than say bidding on "web design" which would be cost prohibitive.

    Fist of all you need to have a Good Landing Pages to showcase your Services and Ofcourse you need to add some Portfolio which you have done.
    Than you can advertise in Google to get more Clients for you.

    This type of PPC sources need keyword research prior to setting up a campaign. You have to do your research to come up with a powerful list of buying keywords. I am pretty sure that many web design companies on any city on any country are running ads on Adwords... so expect a big, big number of competitors and have your wallet open and ready to spend a decent budget to test your ads in order to get a big ROI.

    Consider the Display Network as a cheaper way to get started. Your CPC will likely be much lower than trying to target web design related keywords on the search network.
