  That's like asking "Why do businesses exist, what is the point?" The point of a business is to make a profit.
  
  Just as the point of a business is to make profit, the point of keyword research is also to make a profit.
  
  Keywords are used by ad platforms to trigger ad impressions based on search terms, or contextual targeting of topics. Researching to find and select the most profitable keywords is the point of keywords research for PPC advertising.
