It is weird, i try to test 2 different country adsense account on the same site, one is European account, the other is china account, but cpc is big difference, the cpc on European account is almost over $1 per click, but on china account, it is so low, just 15 cents. anyone can tell me what's the issue? thanks!

  • So how did you exactly test it? You first put the European code in, then next switched it out with the Chinese code? Where are your visitors from?
  • yeah, i just replace the ad code and see there is big difference, i do seo on sites. so all the visitors are from search engine..

    • So the visitors are the same? Just the code is different?
  • yeah, all are same except ad code.

    • It may be related to your code, you should verify your both code and observe it.
  • how to verify it?
  • My guess is they pay publishers differently based on their location.
  • it is unfair. same content, why pay lower for different pbulisher?

    • Supply and demand. You have higher quality visitors in certain countries. For example, advertisers will pay more money for visitors in the US or Europe vs. Asia or Africa. There is more money to be made from customers in the US or Europe, as opposed to Asia or Africa. So this principle applies to the economics of Adsense and Adwords as well.
  • Yes, supply and demand is a huge part of it. You can't compare since both sites are being served different ads, probably very different ads.

You have to remember too, from the advertisers side, that ad quality is a big part of it as well. Advertisers are rewarded with lower costs for better ads. That is why you should not concern yourself with lower CPC on the Adsense side. Google is there to make money too and will do this the most efficient way possible. Don't concern yourself with CPC much, look at CTR. Do the lower CPCs have the same or higher CTRs? Do the math, you may be earning more from them per 1000 visitor to your site.
  • if it is is really... it'll be high crime from adsense
  • its a fact that if your website is based on European countries then your revenue will be higher compared with Asian countries but I dont know about adsense codes as I never tried that. If it is so as you shared then its weird. As you've changed only codes but your visitors are coming from same sources as they were before. Really surprising.

    • Hi cleaning72,

If I understood your post correctly you just switched the publisher ID, is that correct?

There are a few things that can cause the discrepancy:
1.The publisher account is different, and it may have settings that are different. For example one might be set to serve text and image ads while the other is set to serve only text ads.
      2. One of the publisher's accounts could be "smart priced" which is to say the publisher has earned a low quality score based on the past performance.
      3. CPC will often vary wildly from one day to next within the same publisher account. You would would need to do a A/B split test, randomly rotating publisher IDs, over a period of at least a couple of weeks to get a valid sample size.
