Facebook Ads not working well

I started doing Facebook advertising a few weeks ago and I set it up so that it would place ads on Mobile News Feed, Desktop News Feed, and Audience Network. Facebook decided to place about 95% of the impressions on the Audience Network and almost all the rest on the Mobile News Feed. Our ad is for wedding cinematography and I would prefer to have a good portion on the Desktop News Feed because I think that brides would be more likely to browse our site if they see us on the Desktop News Feed.

When I changed the settings to not include Audience Network, it only produced a fraction of the impressions from before, still charged me the same amount of money, and placed almost all the impressions on the Mobile News Feed so that there were just a few on the Desktop.

How can I get lots of impressions on the Desktop News Feed without paying 10 or 20 times as much money?

You should create separate ad sets or separate campaigns for the various placements and set your budget individually for the desktop, mobile, or audience net. That way you control how much you're spending on each placement type and they can't show your desktop newsfeed ads on the audience network or mobile. As in all ad networks, you will be paying more for better placements. But test and optimize and you won't be spending 20 times as much.

mdsunc29, Audience Network and mobile newsfeed are realy cheaper ..so if you goal is "optimized CPM" FB will show your ads only on mobile.

If you only target desktop the CPC will be twice (but the conversion rate is 3 times more effective)

The issue with FB ads is the CPC is quickly increasing if you target interest, Keywords, gender, etc..

For your business (wedding cinematography) you should target interest like

Also you can buy mobile solo ads on that apps

Try many interest with different FB campaigns. Take your time.

But isn't the reason the ads mainly show on mobile (mobile news feed and Audience Network) and not on desktop, not because that's what FB chooses but simply because your demographic (the millennial bride to be) is mostly on mobile, so that's where the majority sees the ads. Or do I have a misunderstanding of how FB ads work?

If understand your question...would suggest testing your campaign on "desktop only" depending on where sending them like landing page or website or etc and definitely test cpc versus the impression route.

This way you can find out what fb will actually charge you on 100% desktop and per click, then can set up separate campaign with both showing and see how performs and which one outperforms for you.

You check your audiences and other settings. I am sure something is wrong in settings. You should also run a post boost for the same purpose. You will get clisk and likes at the lowest price. When you select options, see the number of audinces in the rightside of console. Hope this will help you. Thanks

1 - Try targeting closer using Demographics like Gender, age and some interests.

2 - Try switching to Bing Ads because Google has changed some Adwords rules yet again

If your text or image Fb ads are still not working even with demographics then try re-targeting or even using Video ads

FB Ads is really not that difficult to achieve success. I will admit however, that you have to be somewhat crafty with your campaigns to see a positive ROI. Keep in mind that your CPC will eventually go down if people are responding to your ad. Also, like some of the other mentions... you definitely want to have different ad sets for desktop, mobile, and audience network. Lastly, make sure that your ads, landing page etc... is congruent with your objective.

From my experience, Facebook ads convert well mostly when using Desktop choice. I never had a good conversion rate with audience network. In order to get the most from Facebook Ads, you need to make the right targeting options and personally I would suggest using only mobile news feed and desktop options.
