Friends which is the best for the bright career between PPC and SEO

Are you looking for a career option or just which form of marketing you want for your business?

As a career option, while both are highly sought-after, SEO can lead to a lot of pain with clients that expect unrealistic results. With Google changing algorithms quite often, provide great results has become really tough. On the other hand if you are creative and learn the technical aspects of PPC on each of the major platforms, then companies will look forward to your services for better return on investment for their ad budget.

Both methods have their place in the IM world.
SEO is better in the long run and it doesn`t involve spending money if you do it yourself. Sure, time is also money but that is another discussion. If you do it right you will see a steady increase in traffic over time.
PPC is great for obtaining a fast increase in your traffic. Because it involves spending money it can`t be used on long periods of time. PPC is not recommended to newbies because you are investing money and if you don`t know what you are doing you can lose all of your budget.

Yeah. Totally agree. That SEO is costs less but have to spend times and PPC is opposite.

    Hi, Anuraggupta2015

You don't have to do one or the other because you can do both. People unfamiliar with search engine marketing often think that they need to choose between AdWords or SEO but those are actually two separate things.

It almost always takes a lot of time to get results from SEO. Those can be months or even years depending on your niche, strategy and other factors.

The thing I have always liked about AdWords and PPC in general is that you can just basically turn money into more money if you have the knowledge and if you put in some work.

  • There is a great need for both SEO and PPC experts so if you wanted to "pick one", you can make a great living at either. Or doing both.

If you are to do both eventually, I suggest choosing one first and spend a couple years learning and improving your skills before doing the other. The one I would start with first is PPC. I think it would be harder going the other way and that SEO people should have more of a PPC mentality.

I think there are few that do both and fewer still that are good at both. In an agency, you'll have people specializing in each and servicing a client in both PPC and SEO is easier and probably best for the client, especially a large one. So having great skills at both is hard since you're being put into one or the other with little or no cross-over.

If you work for yourself, mastering both at the same time will not be easy. That's why I say to start with PPC and slowly move to SEO. I think it will be easier to go PPC2SEO than SEO2PPC.

Interesting point of view but I think that PPC is more hard and even dangerous for a complete newbie. Think about it: With SEO you can only lose your time but with PPC you can lose allot of money if you don`t know what you are doing.

The point is to learn about one or the other. My view is that learning PPC will have more transferable skills to SEO than the other way around. Sure, it's more complicated in a way but that's also the point. I also think that for most people, they'll learn more and faster and be willing to learn more if there's money on the line. A sort of incentive although I don't like to lose time myself. I don't propose to put a lot of money into PPC if you are just starting.

        Hi HCFGrizzly,

I see it as just the opposite.

To suggest that a person's time has little or no value is flawed thinking in my opinion.

You can always get more money, but time, once lost, is gone forever.

There is a finite limit to how much time you have, it's only 1440 minutes per day, no matter who you are, what you know, or how skilled you are you cannot increase your time. However, there is no limit to how much money you can spend, or make in that same day.

Once you realize that your time is the rarest of commodities it flips your perspective towards an approach that allows you to make far more money.

Money was invented to be a convenient way of exchanging labor for goods. Money represents labor. Spending money is a way of acquiring labor. By focusing your spending on acquiring things that increases your productivity per hour you can often acquire far more wealth per day than your personal labor alone can achieve. Don't limit yourself that way.

As long as your spending has a positive ROI, it isn't costing your money, it is making you money. PPC advertising is one of many ways of increasing your productivity beyond what you can achieve with just your personal labor. I always cringe a little whenever I hear someone suggest that they should limit their productivity by not spending on labor saving methods to merely what can be achieved with their own personal labor.

How does a newbie ever overcome being a newbie?

Everyone must start at the same place when learning PPC advertising. We all start with no knowledge whatsoever and gradually learn what we need to know to manage a campaign successfully.

Just as no one can learn to swim without first wading into the water. No one can learn how to market effectively without actually doing it. Sure, start at the shallow end of the pool to be safe, but don't avoid the water altogether. Same goes for PPC advertising, wade into the shallow end of the advertising pool, learn a few basics before moving into the deep end of the PPC pool, but don't avoid the pool altogether. Or, hire a PPC swim coach to accelerate your learning and to keep you from drowning, but don't avoid the pool altogether.

Yes, but to learn PPC is easier, because all the novelties in algorithms are updated automatically, when in SEO you have to change everything manually.

Both techniques are important. I started a web project with a client few years back. We started from scratch. We started doing PPC as we need sales for the site. We got decent amount of sales from that and then we improved the conversions to optimize profit. Later, we got organic traffic from Google and optimize site organic traffic. Now we get traffic from both sources and still use both as we don’t to reply on one source.

You are totally wrong. PPC doesn`t affect SEO. Also you don`t have to be ranked in the first page in order to be allowed to use PPC. You even don`t have to be ranked in order to use PPC. Please educate yourself before giving any advice.

      Agree with that.

The OP however is wondering whether he should build a career doing SEO or PPC, presumably to work for an agency or build his own. I can see this being a hard decision for someone wanting to get into the broader SEM field, somewhat like a doctor deciding whether to be a specialist in nose, ear and throat or cardiology. As for myself, I just basically fell into PPC as a necessity, although I did have a bit of SEO knowledge at that time.

As for SEO and PPC being closely related, there are some similarities on the surface. But deeper down, I don't think they are the same at all.

Also, PPC does not affect SEO in any way. Nor does SEO affect PPC. Two separate and different things. Both of course have the same goal of getting traffic but they do so in different ways.

SEO-Organic and PPC-Paid now use of SEO technique- at some initial level when you search keywords term check its competition and then go for a keywords selection,When you want some one page ranking in really limited time go for a ppc and SEO might take time-it depends upon keywords competition also when you work for any keywords and if suppose it gets first page ranking you don't need PPC for it.and the keywords which are not getting ranked Use PPC thats it.

Like I said before, I think it's better to develop skills in PPC first and then moving to SEO than the other way around, but that's just an opinion. You also could have a good and profitable career doing only SEO.

That is exactly why both will never have a truly successful online business. SEO at best is supplementary in *real* online business. For those of you who prefer to run your 'business' as a hobby, then sure, waste your time with SEO.

Exactly. Fast, scalable results in nearly every niche. The same lessons you learn in Adwords and Bing can transfer to much better scaling platforms (native display advertising and RTB platforms)

If you're taking your business seriously then eventually you'll need to know PPC. Most of the SEO guys other there (especially on this forum) are selling snake oil. You can't guarantee anything nor really have any level of control with SEO because you don't directly control anything related to it. Sure you can manipulate keyword results etc, but at the end of the day, you have no control.

With PPC you control almost every aspect of the advertising process.

As simple as it gets, PPC will cost you money on the start and will let you know what your numbers are, but in the long run definitely SEO since you would be building authority beside competition and you won't need to spend a lot of money just to repeat the things you could accomplish with SEO.
They are also mutually relevant since sometimes you maybe wouldn't be able to come first according to your competitions SEO but you need to promote something and want a shortcut since you are not there yet with SEO.

Hope this would encourage you to try both and consider building long lasting SEO,

The main difference between Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Pay Per Click (PPC) is that movement originating from SEO (natural) is free while activity produced from PPC is not free (as the name suggests you need to pay a cost for each snap). This is additionally the motivation behind why you may now and again observe the terms natural web index postings and paid web crawler postings (or Paid Search Advertising PSA).

If you are talking about for your own website then SEO is the first thing you should do, that is the foundation of your business right there, and the best payout overtime. The other reason for this is because your advertising for PPC will be seen as more relevant and therefore cheaper per click.
Every time I build a page first I do the SEO, then I set up the PPC, that is the only rational way to approach it in my opinion. You an also apply your PPC results back to your webpage after you collect enough data and increase the SEO once more.

If when you say SEO you mean linkbuilding... I am not a fan of linkbuilding anymore, seems when I do it my visitors go down, not up. I am probably bad at linkbuilding, it is probably a result of the many years of bad advice I have read on the subject.

If you are talking as a job for yourself, I would pick PPC, it is the easiest to scale overtime, and more reliable than SEO to bring in better results month over month.

It completely depends on your interest and your knowledge. In both the fields, you have to work hard and bring traffic to your website. You have to run successful ad campaigns mainly in Adwords to get traffic. But in case of SEO, you have to take the help of content and then optimize it properly to drive traffic. The ultimate goal is the same. Only you have to choose the path. One more thing, PPC is costly for the business, so you will be paid more. SEO is free, so your salary will also be less.

PPC is the abbreviated form of Pay Per Click and it is a advertisement campaign conducted by Google.
It is referred as aprim module with two sub module CPC(cost-per-click) and CPM(cost per thousand impression). through bidding and flat rate respectively.

SEO has been emerged as an excellent method to promote a website that's means promoting a website in search engine with motive to enhance the ranking in search engine page result. However,in order to get top ranking position in search engine a website must be appers as search engine friendly.
