Should I be separating Facebook ads by ad set?

A couple years ago a prominent Facebook marketer told me to split my ads to have only one of them per ad set. His rationale was that Facebook does not evenly divide the traffic among them. Is this still the case nowadays, or is it just as effective to put several ads in a single ad set?

    Hi, Sean DeSilva

I haven't found an option to rotate the ads evenly, so I believe that putting the ads into separate ad sets is probably the only way to properly test them (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

If you're serious about getting good results then I believe you should indeed follow this strategy. After accruing some data you can bid less or more on different ads depending on the results.

You can do like said, put ads in separate ad sets, which can be easier or just use some software out there, but can be expensive or...

If really want to run "even length time", but not at the exact same time...can...

Edit the duration settings for the ad by clicking the "pencil" icon next to the ad's listed duration. If the ad is currently running and you want it to be the first ad in rotation, add an end date appropriate to the duration you've determined -- for example, in 15 days. If the ad is currently paused or has not yet started running, add a start date and an end date. Save the changes to the ad.

Edit or create additional ads, setting start dates and end dates for each. Set dates that pick up the day after the previous ad ends and allows each ad to run for the desired duration. This specifies the order of the ads. It also ensures that each ad runs for the same amount of time without overlapping.

Begin another rotation with the same ads if you find them successful. Return to the Ads Manager as each ad ends to set a new start date and end date. Also edit the ads, create new ads based on the originals or create new ads that are unrelated to the originals when developing the next rotation, planning for the time required for Facebook to review the ad.

This basically allows you to evenly split on amount of days ran. but again that way, is not running at same time, is running same length of time for somewhat accurate test though.
