Landing page and hosting options for a newbie

I've been researching online marketing on and off for years it seems. Guess I even missed the easy money of the early 2000s. I have the time and I am ready to take action. I have zero desire to write tons of content for a blog and I'm great at analyzing and problem solving, so it seems Bing campaigns with a 1 page site/landing page is probably the best fit for me.

My question is what are some of my options for creating a decently converting landing page and hosting it? with A/B testing? I'm familiar that most mid-sized hosting packages allow unlimited sub-domains, and I'm also aware of instapage, leadpages, monkey something.. I don't know HTML, though I am very tech savvy and a quick learner, but I guess I'm probably best off with a landing page/hosting service. I don't know, what do you guys think?

I plan on following solarwarriors guide and all the other information I've soaked up and still learning from other sources and youtube.

There are a number of hosting services with very attractive packages for, of course, hosting in general, but also for supplying many (many, many) apps and tools for doing just what you are talking about. I never thought I would be a WordPress proponent, but as I do SEO as an indie contractor, I have found that a tremendous number of agencies work in nothing but WordPress. The hosting company I do affiliate hosting with (no, I'm not advertising) has WordPress hosting options.

Since I hear a lot of me in your post, I'll tell you that what I did to start of on that learning curve was to grab an old laptop I no longer used, and downloaded a WAMP with a WordPress install. That was my intro on how to configure and then use WordPress. On a local host one can not only let go of any concern of monkeying something up, but can work in a stress free environment while watching everything take shape (or go to crap and then fix it) immediately. It also allows you to experiment with your landing pages, configure A/B testing scripts, etc.

As for "decently converting"... that's a subjective phrase. Decently for JobobsPawnShop.com, or decently for Microsoft.com? Either way, it will in large part be a factor of how it is written, how engaging it is, if the call to action is enticing and supported by all the other content on the page.

Finally, you don't really have to know HTML anymore to create a site. Back in the day, one would just whip out a trial copy of FrontPage, build a point and click static web site, and bam, you're up. The code was ugly and went on for days, much like WordPress sites. I'm not saying they will be technically good, but you can get one up and running. If you are indeed like me though, you will realize that if you want to really know what you are doing and be able to climb out of holes you will eventually dig yourself in to, you will need some familiarity with the relevant languages, and they are not very difficult to become familiar with.

    That's a great question zachmode.

Thanks for the replies. Guess I need to be more specific.

What are the advantages for using a service like instapage or lead pages where you pay a monthly fee and they host unlimited domains for you, versus getting a hosting package that allows unlimited domains/subdomains from bluehost, hostgator, etc? Does the services that instapage and leadpages provide include the domains or do you have to purchase those seperately from namecheap or godaddy?

The main advantage is convenient. It is a "hosted for you" solution and everything is taken care of. You just need to log in, pick a template, customize if needed and everything can be done on the fly. Heck, you don't even need to purchase new domain name in order to start using it. It is a convenient both for newbie who has little knowledge on how to put thigns together themselves. For experienced and seasoned marketer, it is very convenient tool as they can focus solely on marketing and make more money rather than spending the unproductive time on messing with codes, set ups, etc.

Personally, I feel it is individual preference either to go with the hosted solution like leadpages or do it yourself route. Both are fine as long as you know what you are doing. If you choose leadpages for example, I assumed you are already aware that the monthly fee are nothing compare to the simplicity it brings as well as profits that you are bringing in every month outweights all the costs involved.

On the other hand, the other option of setting up yourself isn't difficult at all if you know how to do it.

If you are going to do bing ads then services like leadpages may not help because as I know your pages are hosting on their own domain/subdomain. So this may affect your bings ads score etc...

So if you are just get started then you may look for a shared hosting plan, get a domain (some hosting providers offer free domain) and for landing pages you may need to have a look on page builders like Instabuilder 2.0 or OptimizePress!

Both are great (one-time fee) and can help you build nice and high converting pages! No need to know html!

These are drag and drop page builders, easy to use with many features!

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

I always go for namecheap or godaddy for my hosting and domain names as they are having very good support and very easy panels to maintain

You can try 1and1, they have a very cheap hosting with 1 included free domain for lifetime. Not to mention it has private registration included already which other registrar will charge you for that.

    In my opinion
    the best thing to do
    Is buying a domain name
    from godaddy,

    And work with Instapage
or Wix, they are simple and easy to
    understand and use.
