Hey Everyone,
My last post on here was about what i should do to optimize my ctr in my campaign and i was told to split test my ads with each ad group having all same/very similar keywords. i have set up a few ad groups now and done that and now my campaign is running out of budget very quickly everyday and bing says i should up my daily budget. I was wondering what my next step should be? Should i increase my daily budget for a few days and see if i get any sales? Should i optimize my campaign even better and if so how?

Thank You in advance!

    Hi Ethan,

Are you seeing many conversions from the existing account setup? Increasing the budget is kind of dependant on your financial situation, but if you weren't seeing results from some ad groups or keywords, and there's a decent amount of data to support that (at least a couple times more spend than your target cost per conversion) then I would recommend reducing bids on those poorly performing terms, or even pausing them if you're hitting budget very quickly.

It would be better to have the spend go towards terms which you know are performing well for you then you can expand along those same lines for future growth (use similar keywords and ads to what has been shown to work).

    Hope that helps!

      Peter,
By conversions do you mean sales or a high click through rate? I'm still very new to IM.

    It depends..

What is currently your daily budget?
Is your campaign set to Standard or Accelerated? The Accelerated option spend your budget more quickly.
    What is your avg CPC?
What match types are you bidding on?
How much have you spent on your campaign so far?
    Are you building a list?
Has your campaign had any sales so far?
What is the payout of the product your promoting?

      cooler1,
Thank You For the reply and,
1- My daily budget is $5.
2- Accelerated, what is the recommended or what are the benefits of each?
3- My average cpc is 0.27-0.31 depending on the ad group.
4- If i sort it by bid type broad is at the top of all of my ad groups but i have all versions of each keyword by that i mean each keyword has a broad exact and phrase version, should i try to get exact or phrase to be clicked more and if so how?
5- I've spent $169 on it so far.
6- Yes im trying to build a list.
7- Its had one sale and it was within the first five minuets of it going live and i think it was just pure luck.
      8- About $41.

You need to use PPC just for testing out your site while you get your conversion ratio up to an acceptable level...otherwise you will just be throwing away money.

What's recommended depends on what your daily budget is. On Standard, the ad impressions are spread out more throughout the day. So if your setting a low daily budget then Standard is a prefered option, so you can see how your ads perform at different times in the day.

Ideally, you want exact and phrase because they are much closer targeted to what keywords you are bidding on. Broad match produces lots of untargeted traffic unless you use Broad match modifier. As your ad spend is already $169 with one sale, id recommend to pause all Broad match keywords.

If you click the "Dimensions" tab, you can see what are the searches from the Broad match searches.

          cooler1,
Thank You, im going to set it to standard and see if that makes a difference at all.
One thing i forgot to mention is although i have all types of all keywords broad is the only ones ever clicked none of the exact or phrase versions have any clicks at all and btw I made my second sale today!

    Hi Ethan,

Sounds like you need to set some goals. You need smart goals, goals that are specific, time-bound, and measurable. Those goals will help you decide what the next step should be. Without a clear goal, your objectives will be fuzzy, and the next steps will be unclear for you as well as anyone else that might try to advise you. Start with a goal.

Don't worry too much about whether it is the right, goal, or the best goal, just set a realistic goal and this will give you direction. You can always make a course correction if you identify a better course in the future. What you need to focus on next will be much easier to discern once you have a clearly defined goal.

Asking us for the next step, without knowing your goal, is a bit like a captain of a cruise ship asking for for a navigation heading without knowing the destination port. No matter what answer you get it won't be correct, except perhaps by coincidence.

If you haven't already done so, go ahead and set some specific goals for your campaign and then share your goals with us, along with what you have done so far, and we can point you in the right direction to reach your goal.

You will need to focus on different tasks, depending on the goals of your campaign., so start with a goal. For example you mentioned that you are "building a list". Is just building a list your goal, or are you trying to sell something and building the list is a side objective?

Have you set any specific goals for how many people are adding to your list during a given month? Do you have any standards for who is qualified for this list, or does the list have no standard except a valid email?

Start with a goal. Define objectives for reaching that goal, include standards. Identify the metrics that will allow your to measure the progress you are making toward your goal. Then you will have the Key Performance Indicators that you can use for your performance optimization plan.

If you don't have a goal, you can't get there from here. Go back to where you came from, set a goal, and start from there.
