Assessing Adwords PPC Competition

If there are no local competitors for local keywords (eg car repair, chicago) but just lead gen companies like thumbtack, is that a good indicator of a good opportunity? It sure seems like it would be. I never click on lead gen ads when I'm looking for a local service and I'm guessing there are lots of people like me.

  • Yes, a website like Thumbtack likely has a strong optimization team.

So they would be watching their keywords for ROI.

If they've been running ads for awhile, I say go for it, as there's a strong chance they are getting a return.

    • Thanks Dave. Is there a way to tell how long they've been running ads other than manually watching?
    • I got an email saying you replied to this thread but don't see the reply.

  • If you do not see "real" competition in your area, in general it is a good indicator but at the same time market may be shallow and people gave up advertising due to lack of results

  • I think you on target. You might also try Spyfu.com or Keywordspy.com.
