How to get a higher Ad Rank when you can't use your keyword in the ad text itself?

When you target you competitor's name for example and you don't want to write his name in the ad text, you get a low ad rank, how can you improve it?

    Hi dvz,

    I suggest that you use the AdWords Keyword Planner tool to discover the search terms that are being utilized the most for your competitor's business name, website name, and actual website URL. You can enter those parameters into the Keyword tool and out pops the data that you can use to plan your strategy.

    You can then utilize the terms that are most often included along side their brand terms within your ad text.

    Most importantly, try to understand the searchers' intent while searching for those terms and craft ad text that either puts doubt about the brand, or addresses the intent in a very clear fashion. Test several variations to see which tends to get the best CTR. Then after that has been optimized, you always have the option to increase your bid to improve your ad rank.
