Google Adwords or Bing Ads?

Do you prefer Adwords or Bing Ads, and why? I've researched both and I'm just wanting to hear from other marketers what they use and like and how they use it, and/or pros and cons.
#ads #adwords #bing #google
  • It's not a question of liking or preferring one over the other. They are very much alike, at least when talking about search that there really is no pros and cons. The only pro is Google with a bigger reach. Most people will "Google" something but you never heard of "Binging" something. But if I told you that Bing is much better in every respect, you would not use Adwords? That's shortsighted and dismissing a bigger potential of attracting customers.

Choosing an advertising platform is not a question of choosing just one. You can use both and even other platforms. It's not like buy most other things and needing just one so you need to make a choice. In this case, you can use both or all of them. It's always been strange to me that most people use one search engine and not two or three when they are free and could provide different answers which might be beneficial.

It also depends on what you want to do. Google has a vast display network (Adsense) that Bing doesn't. Does this factor into your decision? Like it or not, just because of the reach, an advertiser is pretty much forced to use Adwords. However, there are others out there and I say use all those where your potential customers are. If they frequent a site which monetizes on the XYZ ad network, you need to join that network, even if you don't like that network.

I'm going to use both either way, I'm just wondering specific instances that one might be more beneficial. For example, a large percentage of people who use Bing are older. They use internet explorer rather than Chrome, Firefox or Safari, because it is their default browser, which means Bing is their default search engine. So perhaps if one was looking for an older audience in certain niches, Bing would be a better option. Bing has a smaller reach, but is also less competitive, and CPC tends to be lower. I guess the better question to ask would not have been "what is your preference" but "what have you found to be successful on the various search engines" I'm just looking for more insight on when it is beneficial to use each relative site, if that makes sense, because they both do have their strengths.

Google adwords is the best you can choose the right set of audience and target location at an affordable cost. Also most of them prefers to search in google only rather than Bing and the advertising network of google is very vast ranging from text ads to ad sense you can do everything like re targeting your own website visitors but bing ads have very limited functionalities.

  • Comparing Google Adwords and Bing Ads , i will completely prefer Google Adwords. Google Always have strong algorithm and you can easily get return by selecting proper keyword & proper landing page. Few days back, for CPA business, i tried Adword Bing & Fb ads but all shit for CPA. Traffic system is ok all time. But we were doing some mistake to offer select or landing page.

If you are asking about the comparison between google or bing? I would say your number one choice should be Google Adwords and Number 2 choice should be Bing Adcenter. Bing has also the very sophisticated system to drive paid ads. Their prices are lower then Google & best part is that their policy are same as Google. First go with Bing Adcenter and after getting conversion keyword use them with Google and test again

    Google Adwords any time...

Google is the largest search engine on the Internet, and to use the Internet as a profit-making source, one needs to use Google. The more smartly you use it, the more benefits you will reap. Google AdWords makes your marketing task a whole lot easier by bringing huge per click traffic through the use of proper keywords. When these keywords convert to business and sales, the traffic driven from Google AdWords is converted to profit.

Here are 10 reasons why you can still use Google AdWords:

    1. Small Initial Investment
    2. Defining Budget
    3. High ROI
    4. Target Traffic
    5. Test Marketing Campaigns
    6. Instant traffic
    7. Tracking success
    8. Targeting ads locally
    9. Suggested high volume keywords
    10. Improves hands-on experience

These are the top 10 reasons why you can still use Google AdWords to bring effective traffic and business to your site. All these features accompanying Google AdWords make this campaign more effective and useful and thus increase its use among those who maintain Web sites to bring instant and targeted traffic to their Web sites. These features also specify that Google AdWords, if managed efficiently, can be used as a perfect tool for increasing Web site traffic and running a profitable e-business.

I just had to ad to my previous comment .
When using Geo targeting advertisements with Google and you are competing in the same industry as another local - I have observed Google favouring the bigger spender when it comes to ad placement.
Seo appears to be is very little or no value when someone is running a adwords campaign in your industry - unless you have deep pockets and can afford to outspend the other competitor.
Social media platforms are be better by far, they are generally cheaper, you can engage with your audience, no need to pay for an autoresponder, more even playing field.
You have heard the saying " the money is in the list", I have found the money is my social media audience.
Google has turned into such an ugly monster that it prostitutes itself to the highest bidder.
It would be interesting to see where Google and Bing are in five maybe ten years from now.

  • >> Bing has fallen way behind as a contender when it comes to PPC

I wouldn't say Bing is falling behind. It's that Microsoft is not a leader and is a follower. So whatever Google does, they'll do soon after. They don't innovate. I can't think of a single MS product that they invented, it's all building on something that already exists.

    >> I have observed Google favouring the bigger spender when it comes to ad placement.

I don't know how you can observe that. There's no data available to come to such a conclusion. Also, do you mean the bigger budget or the bigger bidder? From the way you said it, I'm thinking you mean budget but budget size has no relevance on placement. Bids do but also in conjunction with your QS. It is possible that a bigger player has better QS and also bidding more to get top position more often. But it is just as possible for a smaller player to displace the bigger one. There's no favorites no matter who you are or how much you spend.

    >> Seo appears to be is very little or no value

That's right. SEO and PPC are two separate things. Each are on their own merit. That's where you should have stopped because, again, budget (deep pockets) has no influence.

    >> Social media platforms

They'll be better (whatever that means) if it makes sense to use. If you think that cheaper means better, then that is a wrong assumption.

    >> it prostitutes itself to the highest bidder

Then you don't know or understand the ad ranking process or supply and demand. Google doesn't set the prices, the advertisers do. And even if you are the highest bidder, doesn't mean you get top billing. That's where that pesky QS comes in. In fact, the highest bidder is not always the one that makes Google more money.

    >> It would be interesting to see where Google and Bing are in five maybe ten years from now

        Hi Kiwigal,

        Welcome to the forum.

I can see that you are new here and probable don't realize that Lucid is not only an old member here, he has been operating a PPC agency for many years and contributing insights on the forum for many years as well. He is without a doubt sitting on a truckload of data as are the handful of other agency owners that lurk on this forum. He's also a straight shooter telling it exactly as he sees it.

I wouldn't say that Lucid was disputing your assertions per say, more like clarifying or correcting them. Lucid is one of the good guys here, he's not a troll, he just likes to keep the the total nonsense that gets spewed here down to a dull roar, as do I and others. Nonsense is tolerated generously in some of the other parts of this forum, but much less so on this board. PPC agencies live and die by their ability to read the truth in data and see the horse manure for what it really is, get my drift.

While I don't always agree on some of the finer points that Lucid makes, I do find his insights are generally spot on with my own personal experience. Since it was you that made the assertions, I think it is on you to show the data that supports your assertions, rather than make us work all day long to correct the many crazy assertions that spewed here on a daily basis. Please be kind and cite your data and I'm sure Lucid and or others will counter with their own data sources.

Just keep in mind the Lucid, like other agency owners are constantly analyzing real data for real campaigns, not just reading and citing other people that are in the business of publishing content. He and other agency owners are the real tip of the spear, not sideline observers reporting on what they think they saw. You'd be wise to heed Lucid's comments as 1st person accounts of front-line marketing battles. not casual observations of 3rd part articles. Get my drift?

Your discussion is welcomed here just be prepare to be challenged if you make off-the-cuff remarks that just don't ring true with people that have lived and worked in these platforms every day for many years.

Looking forward to hear your comments.

Both are good and have their own importance. Google ads have wider reach and provides you much more advanced features for targeting the specific audience. On the other hand Bing has a very less percentage of users who are using Bing and Internet Explorer so a less Competitive market and better returns on your investments. so its your choice which one you choose. I am using Google for certain times Bing ads.

It's certainly not an alternative, but it's not as bad as some marketers think. Bing has less competition and advertisers can enjoy unique features that AdWords doesn't offer (yet). Furthermore, if you're on a shoestring PPC budget, Bing is a better choice.

As many have suggested in their answers here, you're much better off running your Bing campaigns in conjunction with AdWords campaigns. But if we were to choose one over the other, here are a few reasons why you may prefer Bing ads over Google AdWords:

    1. Bing ads are more affordable

Bing has less competition, and CPC rates are cheaper and you're guaranteed better ad positions. According to WordStream, the average CPC is 33.5% cheaper on Bing when compared to Google.

    2. Bing has better device targeting options

Bing allows its users to adjust their bids for various device types, including mobile devices and tablets. With Google AdWords, users can't opt out of desktop searches. You can of course target searches from mobiles and tablets, but you'd have to do so in conjunction with desktop searches.

    3. Bing allows you to control search demographics

With Bing Ads, you have the ability to control which gender and age demographics see your ads. Google, on the other hand, lets you do demographic targeting only on the Google Display Network, and not on the search network.

    4. Bing's market share is growing, especially in the U.S.

According to Search Engine Journal, Bing powers nearly one out of every three searches in the U.S. with a market share of 22.8 percent. That's a huge number of potential customers being ignored by opting out of Bing ads.

Furthermore, comScore data shows Bing's market share is growing faster than Google's, owing to the growth of Windows 10, since Bing is integrated throughout the entire desktop operating system.

So if you're catering to the U.S. market, Bing is an advertising platform you can no longer ignore.

    5. Bing has better social extensions

With Bing, you can add extensions to your Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram business pages. On the other hand, with Google AdWords, you can just add a link to your Google+ page. Google+ has its advantages, but quite frankly, businesses are a lot more active on Facebook and Twitter.

Hope this helps! I'd also suggest you read this WordStream article - 7 Ways Bing

Usually I always start with Google Adwords first to test my offer. Once I see the that the product is working I then enable Bing Ads as well. It less traffic but the CPA is usually significantly lower and you can make really good money out of it. However, if you need volumes you will have to master Adwords!

We run ads on both platforms and with most sites, have always had a better cost per click and cost per conversion on Bing. Several recent studies have also pointed this out but I do not have links to them readily available. That said, Google delivers substantially more clicks and traffic.

Bing tends to be a better platform if you are selling to people who are not especially computer literate, which usually means a much older audience. This is because Bing comes pre-installed on most PCs and the thought would never occur to a computer novice to switch their search engine. Although you may not think that older people are your target market, keep in mind that many of them have much more disposable income than the average person and that they also have children and grandchildren that they purchase things for. For some niches, that can make Bing especially valuable.

Finally, a few studies have come out that ask people why they clicked on certain search results. What those studies have shown is that computer newbies and older people tend to click on ads more often and that when asked if they realized it was an ad, most of them said "no". People are more hesitant to click on ads because they feel like someone is trying to "sell them something". Again, that means Bing might be a better advertising platform (especially since they do a very poor job of making ads look any different from organic results).

Great question! Google Adwords and Bingads cover almost all of the paid search market share so I wouldn't bother with expanding beyond them until your ad campaigns are at a point where you just can't grow them anymore. Google gets a lot more volume than Bing so you'll find that with Adwords you can spend a lot more. However, if you're on a smaller budget you may find that Bingads could work just as well for you or in some cases it may work better for you than Adwords. In my experience, the potential for spend on Bingads is about 15% of the potential for spend on Adwords. For example, if you are spending $100/day on Bingads then you could probably spend $700 on Adwords, thereby making that much more money on your ad spend using Adwords. However, in some cases Adwords may be more competitive than Bingads and you may find that your profit margin is better with Bingads than with Adwords. Also, Bingads is not as strict as Adwords is so you may also find that you have less ad disapprovals with Bingads than with Adwords. Affiliate marketing landing pages will often fall under Adwords' definition of a "bridge page" and Adwords may disapprove your ad for that reason and ultimately they could disable your account while Bingads has a looser definition of that term, and your chances of surviving are better. Go ahead and give both of them a shot. Way to go with taking the initiative on creating a business, good luck!

    >> 1. Bing ads are more affordable

A blanket statement, not always true. That should not be a factor in deciding to use Bing or not.

    >> 2. Bing has better device targeting options

You can opt out of desktop searches. Just set your bid adjustment to -100% at ad group level.

    >> 4. Bing's market share is growing, especially in the U.S

Not sure about that but probably true. My view is, Bing has about 20% market share, so why not use it as well as Adwords? Leaving a potential 20% of the market on the table is silly.

    Go with bing. Heres why.
    1. Bing Ads has less competition and cheaper CPC's.
Most small and medium-sized businesses see Bing Ads as an afterthought, but they should really consider it sooner. Bing Ads uses a similar auction dynamic as the Google Ads auction, so the advertisers on Bing have numerous benefits from a lack of competition, such as better ad positions and cheaper costs per click. Of our extensive managed services clients who were advertising on both Google and Bing, we saw that nearly all had lower search CPC's on Bing, averaging 33.5% cheaper CPC on Bing. Not only were these clicks cheaper on Bing, but their ads very often were in better positions than their Google counterparts and had higher CTR's.

    2. Bing Ads offers more granular control at the campaign and ad group levels.
Unlike in Google Ads, Bing allows you to assign different campaigns different time zones. This makes sophisticated ad scheduling strategies far easier to manage in Bing, particularly if your campaigns reach internationally.

In Google Ads, Google makes you set your network, location, ad scheduling, language, and ad rotation settings at the campaign level and ad groups are restricted to their campaign-level settings. Bing Ads, however, opens these options up at the ad group level, allowing you to quickly adjust a setting for a particular ad group without having to go through the hassle of creating a brand new campaign to make the change.

Paid advertising on Bing - of course much cheaper. If your keyword on Google costs about 10 bucks, then on Bing it may cost about 0,5 2 bucks maximum.

But I want to tell you that I use the company - Qualibid. There is a bid checker for the cost of keywords. The traffic is much less but it costs a penny and this is the real people who are interested in certain information!

Maybe this will help someone !

It's not really one vs. the other. IMHO you should at least consider driving traffic from all viable sources that convert at a reasonable cost.

Bing traffic is nothing to sneeze at. A recent stat said that Bing now has 34% of the desktop search market worldwide.

IMHO, Bing's interface is more clunky, less user-friendly. But they've been nipping at the heels of Google and progressively copying many of Google Ads' features.

Average CPC tends to be lower, and can convert well.

One thing I especially like is the ability to import Google Ads campaigns, keywords, ad groups, ads, etc. Imports can be scheduled on a recurring basis, to automatically import recent changes made in Google Ads.

I have also just started a Bing Ads campaign, I found it a lot easier to use. Plus the fact you get to add your OWN keywords unlike Google ads. Also you get to see your ad on the first page!

I recently began experimenting with Bing and have my second campaign going after receiving so much unresponsive leads while using solo ads. I am not saying that solo ads are bad though. I know this tread is about google and bing but just wanted to compare lead source and quality. So far so good.

Bing even have an option to export your existing campaigns from Google. Bing offers a much cheaper cost and page ranking for your keywords. This is what I have experience so far. Of course it also depends on what niche you are targeting. I paid sometimes less than $0.55 cents for first page ranking when my ads are clicked.

I spend so far $21.00 in two weeks and received 37 clicks and 1,231 impressions and 4 Optins. Edited. Not two weeks. That was only a week ago. I know that the CPC is low but at least I receive clicks and optins. Best of all the optins appear to be very responsive with my followup series not compared to google but other traffic source.

All of my keywords were set at "Phase" match. I get the best results using phase match even though it is slow but you get the best value for your money. You loose less. If you are on a budget then Bing may be you best source for cheaper prices and ranking but Google is also good.

obviously, google. But you should know about the demographics of your audiences and observe their preferred search engines. For example in country like china they don't have google, so if you are targeting them then you should go for the alternatives. apart from that, google adwords.

If your marketing and PPC budget is flexible and high, you should definitely give both a shot. If budgets are low, don't spread yourself too thin. Analyze the demographics of each platform and make a decision based on where your target market will most likely be. Google and Bing can seem like a competition, but if you can dominate multiple platforms, you shouldn't hesitate to do so.

I have started using Google Ad words and have had over 11,800 impressions and only 9 clicks in 5 days!? I found out Ad words added 300 different non relevant phrases that were doing nothing so I have deleted all but what I need.

Bing doesn't have much volume but it's cheaper. I struggled to get my ads shown on Bing due to lack of relevancy despite my ads, keywords and landing page being highly relevant. So am not a fan of Bing.

Bing has less competition and advertisers can enjoy unique features that AdWords doesn't offer (yet). Furthermore, if you're on a shoestring PPC budget, Bing is a better choice.
    1. Bing ads are more affordable
    2. Bing has better device targeting options
    3. Bing's market share is growing, especially in the U.S.
    4. Cheap CPC,High Conversion Rates and Better ROI
    Cons:
    1. Very Low Traffic Compared to Google.

Well I always prefer Google Ads over Bing Ads. There are multiple reasons of this.. Actually Google has bigger data base as compared to Bing. Google has very high search volume as compared to Bing. Another main reason is Google Ads Interface, Which is innovative and attractive while Bing Ads still using their old interface which is bit outdated as compared to Google Ads..

I personally like Adwords, the interface lately has been rather tricky but once you get used it, its easy. Pros: Google display network is huge, it has access to platforms that bing doesn't. Cons: Typical PPC cost is more expensive than Bing.

In my opinion, Bing and Google Adwords, both are equally powerful and effective in conversion at their respective areas. But, it is quite shocking that PPC advertisers consider them as competitor but in actual, they work in a best way when used together.

There is no doubt that Google has the vast contribution in the search market but this doesn't mean that Bing advertising is nothing. Therefore, instead of considering Google Ads & Bing Ads as a competitor, marketers should utilize the power of Google Ads & Bing Ads togather to increase conversion rates.

There is a major variation in the traffic achieved by Bing and Google. The CPC in Bing Ads are quite lower therefore the traffic quality is also lower. On a contrary, it is also possible for an advertiser to generate more sales at a lower CPC by using Bing network. If you're targeting low competitive keyword then Bing will deliver the better opportunity to acquire the traffic you need at a low cost.

IMO what it really comes down to is budget and how fast you want the traffic to come in

In short: Bing Ads are WAY less expensive, and the campaign will take a lot long er to bring in the same number of visitors (because it's a smaller audience) - this makes it MUCH better to A/B test different ads and landing pages to completely optimize conversion rates for maximum profit margins as your money wont be gone in 60 seconds.

Google, on the other hand, in my experience costs a minimum of 2-3x what Bing ads costs, the budget/campaign runs out about 50x faster, so if you don't have yourself properly optimized and prepared prior to launching the campaign, you could easily blow several hundreds (or even thousands) of dollars in a matter of a couple hours with nowhere near the conversion rate you could have had if you optimized it via testing it slowly...

As far as which one converts better? Honestly the difference in conversion between the two has been negligible at best for me, but that may differ from other people's experience.

    hope that helped

OH - PS - you might also want to try BuySellAds to get your feet wet - the :"marketplace" section of BSA allows you to pick which site you want to advertise on yourself, and some great advertisers are on there (WF is one of them lol)

I like using Google Adwords vs. Bind probably because I have a good basic understanding of it. I have noticed some differences in the past few months that I didn't see years ago; For one, it tooks many days to get my retargeting ads approved. I expected that they would be approved either instantly or at most within 24 hours. When I contacted their support, they said they were having 'issues' with getting the ads approved faster. I do like that Google builds look-a-like audiences for your retargeting campaigns and that you can retarget videos as well.

Google Adwords is the powerful tool for the advertiser on the web at this time, because they (google stuff) use many resources to target the specific users who really care about your product, cause you need the right user of your products and that's what google can do for you without wasting your money, other companies are good but not efficient as google.
