What is the best way to promote affiliate products with PPC? Do you think sending the traffic to a blog post with a review, or some other kind of helpful information, and an affiliate link would work?

Send the traffic to you landing page, deliver a free gift, build your list and then promote them quality products with your affiliate link.

This is not something new & many does this. But, be cautious with this approach. You need to be able to have a good copy of review that can hold your visitors attention & drive them to click the button. (Basic Copy writing thing though).
Not sure, how u are planning, but don't miss out the email ids.
You need to also categorize your keywords carefully to target the right visitors.
On the flip side, you may find some long tail keywords with lesser competition & possibly lower cpc.
