Facebook Targeting problems

I have a conundrum when it comes to Facebook targeting. I took 2 hrs to find good targeted keywords but I could only come up with 4 really good keywords to target my niche (I would say about 40%-60% are related top tens categories.)

There were other keywords that were part of the top 10 category but I can't target them on Facebook, which is sucks. I have also tried to search for Magazines related to my niche as well, but I can't really target them on Facebook either.

Any idea what to do? My niche is really big and I don't know why I can't find more targeted keywords to target.

I lurked around related pages in my niche and I see hundreds thousands of fans ( targeted pet owners) but yet when I use Audiences Insights tool for targeting I could barely find any.

Am I missing something? Any pointers is greatly appreciated!

By 'keywords' - do you mean Interests in FB?

It's *usually* pretty easy to find good interests to target on Facebook. You can find lots of good ideas in the Audience Insights tool. I recorded a quick video the other day that shows how to use it (it was to answer a different question) - I would explain it here but it's rather complicated to explain without pictures etc.

    You can watch it here

(hopefully this doesn't break any WF rules for linking - there's no product or aff links )

Hi Colorado, thanks for the video it's great. And yes, interests. I can't target every interests shown on my top 10 categories. I could only target just a few. Only a few would actually show up as suggest keywords - that's the problem.

      Thanks!

Well, this is a good advice actually!

@OP: Well, make sure that you are using the right tool also. Some tools even Google Adwords tool does not show all the keywords and proper search volume. So, I recommend that you go for only paid tools so that you can get proper amount of data related to your keyword and the search volumes and the interests. There are many third party tools available on the internet.

You can go to targeting academy.com and get a software tool called insightr which helps you get more hidden keywords and target the right audience in your niche.

  • Thanks guy! I'm currently using Google to find more targeting. I search for things like Magazines, Foundations, Organizations etc. I make sure they are on Facebook. So I already know a lot of these strategies. Why should I need the paid tools? Am I missing something?

One targeting I have used on Facebook has been to go after people interested in my competition.

But, if you have at least one related interest that can be targeted, click on the suggestion link or button. That link or button may be seen around where you enter the interest to target, when setting up your campaign adset. Doing this should get Facebook to give you potential interests to target.

Sorry, I lost you there. What suggestion link or button are you talking about? Are you talking about suggested keywords? If so, some keywords are actual fan pages while others are just random keywords, they are based off of "Like by association". I always recheck just to make sure.

And the people who are interested in your competition are really just segmented audience that you target. These are audiences who not only Liked the first Interest you target, but also Liked the 2nd and 3rd etc. I like to narrowed at least Interests.

  • I have come to conclusion there's really no way to find hidden Interests through paid tools. Everything you will ever need can be done for free. If your niche is not Targetable on Facebook then perhaps it's the "wrong" niche.

    Thank you.

  • Okay I was wrong. There are paid tools. I just found some. I'm going to play around and see if this work. Will get back soon.
