  • It is good to have 2 adcopies per adgroup.

  • The key to advertising is to try different messages, see which gives better results. In other words, testing different things.

Many newbies use just one ad (and often a poor one). That's not testing. Even if you change the ad, you are testing just one ad and tells nothing other than the results for each ad given different situations. There is great uncertainty. So you should never have just one ad.

Let's jump to 3 or more ads. In effect, you are diluting your test because you are less sure of the parameters under which each was served. Say one of four ads happened to be shown more at night when, in your case, less people click or perform your action. You'd then think it's no good and not run it anymore. But you haven't given it a fair chance because you have 3 other ads. There's too much variability to be confident that this one ad in four is better/worse.

When you have two ads, it is a better test. You minimize that variability and thus have greater confidence that one is better than another. It's called an A/B test for a reason, not an A/B/C or A/B/C/D test.

Of course, you could run your 4-ad test for a longer period. I wait until I get 25-30 per ad before deciding which is performing better and more clicks is better, unless one ad is so obviously bad and I don't wait that long. If you have four ads, I would wait even longer to try to remove the variability, maybe 40-50 clicks or more per ad. That would be over 200 clicks in the group. That's not even counting other variables such as ad extensions, positioning, even day of week and why I say with four ads, you need to wait longer to get those clicks before deciding what to do. Best to have two ads and remove as much uncertainty as possible.

Two or Three is usually best. The true point of running more than one is to try to find the best performing ad. The idea is to always be testing. After you gather data, then you pause the lower performing ads and rotate in new test ads.

If you are getting a lot of impressions, running 4-5 ads will be beneficial for your campaign optimization.

Well we take 3 ads per ad group. As the chances of showing your ad will be more. You don't have the knowledge as when and which performs better. As the results you are getting. You know which is performing well. After doing A/B testing you can better know which is better optimized.

3-4 is ideal. Assuming your ad groups are structured around themes/core account keywords, you can use variances in ad copy to A/B test things, and be rotating through every couple of weeks.

Google recommends 2 or 3 ads per ad group (if your question is about search network). The recommended number of ads should also be based on the number of impressions ad group will receive.

Google Ads is recommending 3 Ads per ad group for testing. But I would recommend 4 ads per ad group for testing purpose and keep ad setting to show ads evenly. So when you do comparison You know that ads was shown approximately same number of time. You can find which one is working better.
