low budget - low quality leads ?

So for a few days I've been running a "messages" objective ad, targeting my niche based on interest and only in the Nordic countries. Est. audience size 56 000.

However, I am only getting clicks (and messages) from Indian, Pakistani and Syrian people... if I look at their profiles, they still live in the targetted countries.. but are obviously not qualified at all.

The budget was $10 per day.
Also the frequency started going up very quickly - reach was only 1400 (out of potential 56 000), but impressions over 3000.

I chatted with the fb support and they told me it's because the budget is too low to reach high quality people.. so instead, it keeps showing the ad to 'cheap' people multiple times.. just to spend the desired $10 per day.

Which kind of makes sense and also doesn't..

So I am just curious if anyone has the same experience..
I see people regularly and successfully starting out with 5 or 10 budgets per day to test things out..

    Hi,

Did you use facebook insight tool? just create filters to strain the audience. the low budget may be an issue because Facebook takes time to investigate user behavior regarding your ads.

      little delayed response..

      thanks.

Can you elaborate on this a bit more?
It sounds like good advice, but I am not sure I understand what you mean..

Then, why not narrow that audience ?

And yeah, makes sense that the algorithm will go for the cheapest conversion. The other solution might be to have your pixel improve on solid leads instead of basic lead conversion

    Hi McCloud94,

It sounds more like a targeting issue than a budget issue. I routinely use $1 a day budgets (per ad set) to gather data and it works just fine with small daily budgets.

FB gives you many targeting options, however some of those may not be available in the specific countries you are targeting. So use whatever is available to you to split audiences into smaller segments. Some segments will likely perform better, or worse, than other segments. This approach will help you zero in on the best segments for your marketing goals.
    1. Be sure that you choose the language preference that your ideal audience speaks, exclude all other languages.
    2. Use some specific interests and demographics that match the persona of your ideal customer.
    3. Craft ads with a message that focuses in on the psychographics of your ideal customer.
    4. Consider a more sophisticated strategy like targeting an audience using a conversion objective campaign to train your FB pixel to an audience that is most likely to convert, then and only then retarget that custom audience with your "Messenger"object campaign.

    HTH,

    Don Burk

      Hi Don,

okey, thanks a lot. That's good to hear that the small budgets are working..

I've tried to start out with pretty high (for me) daily budgets of $10-30 which only resulted in me spending way too much money but still getting shitty results.

I thought I'll go the route of doing the "first round" of video views and then retarget, which should theoretically give me cheaper and more relevant results (leads).
Instead, I spent money on the VV ads and now getting much worse results than with a completely cold audience lol.

I have a custom audience of 1000 people who watched 75% of my videos.. now the objective is Traffic to messenger.

The price for a link click is 3,3 - and I still don't have any messages.
So I am literally paying 3 euros for someone to click on "see more".

And out of 1000 impressions, there's only 5 link clicks.
      Insane.

Probably consider other traffic source such as, SOLO ADS. some are cheap BUT good quality. But don't ask me. Try it yourself first. Set small budget.

100% agree with you try 100-200 clicks from different vendors and see what will be the average result

Budget spent depend with your target audience. If your budget low, you can setting up the target audience with small coverages area. This is important thing to maximise your click.

Hello McCloud94, here is some advice to you.
    1. Eliminate expats. Since there is no direch way to do that as of now, exclude people who are "far from hometown".
    2. Set up conversion goals and make your Facebook Pixel consume them, this is a MUST to achieve low CPL. Set all the events properly, this is important.
    3. Once you've done that, double your ad spend to speed up the pixel training process.
Hope my humble advice helps you. Good Luck!
