How To Get Targeted 1 Cent Clicks (PPC) On Microsoft Advertising (Formerly Bing Ads)

So I thought I would share how I am getting targeted 1 cent clicks (PPC) on Microsoft Advertising (Formerly Bing Ads). These are clicks coming from Bing, MSN, Yahoo, AOL & sites owned/operated by Microsoft, Yahoo & AOL.

In this one campaign, I have a number of different ad groups targeting keyword/niche categories with a few different ads in each group. I also duplicate the ad groups (keywords & ads) but target them by countries. All of my keywords are set at "phrase match" - not broad match (I'm experimenting on "exact match" as well). I also end up adding negative keywords that I don't want by seeing the search terms people are using that trigger my keyword. It's all about getting more targeted visitors for the money spent.

Tier 1 countries with lower bid adjustments for non-US countries (US, Canada -25%, Australia -25%, UK -25%, New Zealand -35% & I also added Ireland -35% and recently removed Singapore with -65%)

EU countries (lower priced bids that Tier 1... will change it to Tier 2 with additional countries)

World - everywhere (bids set at 5-6 cents depending on ad group)

So my ad groups have names like Software Leads - Tier 1, Software Leads - EU, Software Leads - World for example.

Make sure when you do the location settings that you uncheck the box that says "People searching for or viewing pages about your targeted locations". You will waste a lot of money otherwise.

At the "Campaign Level", under Advanced campaign settings/Targeting - I did bid adjustments to decrease my bids based on device. I decreased my Desktop(includes laptops) bid by 50% because I feel it's a higher value click for my niche. I set the Tablet bid & Smartphone bid at a decrease of 75%. I also should mention that for this campaign, I do have the Demographic setting changed for a 90% decrease for gender "Male" because I want to target women but quite honestly I don't think it does a great job at this aspect.

Now I could change these device settings for each ad group but I find changing it at the campaign level is easier. If I'm willing to pay 50 cents for a Tier 1 country desktop/laptop click than I can set the bid at $1.00 because there is a 50% decrease on desktop bids.

Now I'll show you what occurred yesterday for one of my ad groups targeted at the world (everywhere) with bids set at 5 cents

Devices

Computers -50% Bid adjustment, 11 clicks, 1,791 Impressions, 0.61% CTR, 0.02 Ave. CPC, 5.71 Ave. Pos., Spend 0.21

Smartphones -75% Bid adjustment, 92 clicks, 14,037 Impressions, 0.66% CTR, 0.01 Ave. CPC, 3.57 Ave. Pos., Spend 0.92

Tablets -75% Bid adjustment, 5 clicks, 239 Impressions, 2.09% CTR, 0.01 Ave. CPC, 4.69 Ave. Pos., Spend 0.05

As you can see, I'm getting 1 cent clicks for the Smartphones & Tablets. I also am getting some for desktops even though it is at a 50% decrease bid adjustment. I'm sure if I set that at 75%, all desktop/laptop clicks would be at 1 cent as well. I highly doubt there would many Tier 1 country clicks at 1 cent because of competition but maybe there are a few.

So if you are using PPC to sell products, services or gather leads where your market is world-wide... you can get targeted 1 cent clicks using the method I showed above. I hope it helps you out.

    Hi Warriors,

There's a reason that you can purchase clicks off of Bing, and Google Search for only a penny a click. That reason is that it is the smallest denomination of legal tender. The sad truth is that those clicks, in most cases, are worth far less than one penny in commercial value.

    That's right... I said it!

If you focus on the cheapest clicks you will get the least value per click, in most cases the value is at or approximately zero.

It's a waste of time and money, unless there is some special contest that awards the marketer with the cheapest click costs. Then and only then are you every going to profit from one penny clicks.

Clicks that cost a penny are typically worth far less than a penny. What you are buying is traffic from PTC centers based in Bangladesh and other third world countries where people are paid as little as $8 per week to work 50-60 hours clicking on your ads, over and over, all day long.

Think about it... if we could actually make a profit buying traffic for one penny a click why would anyone ever be willing to pay more than a penny?

Marketers that focus on the one penny click don't make any money, except perhaps when they sell you a course on how to get one penny clicks, but their one penny clicks are losing money, not making a profit.

Sorry, but bad advice is bad advice. Anyone teaching you how to get one cent clicks is teaching you how to lose money, and even worse time. You can always get more money, but once your time is lost you never get it back.

    HTH,

    Don Burk

Well I don't think Don really read my post and realizing I am paying a variety of PPC prices per click & yes some are at 1 cent for World countries. I also focus on Tier 1 & EU country ad campaigns as my post clearly states. Apparently he thinks countries outside of Tier 1 countries are worthless to market to & you shouldn't waste your time. I'll tell that to my latest affiliate upgrade sale out of Thailand that their purchase wasn't worth my time setting up an identical campaign to my Tier 1 countries in only about 3-5 minutes time that all my time was lost. Oh God... I'll never get that 3-5 minutes of time back!!!

So Don you said Microsoft/Bing is selling "traffic from PTC centers based in Bangladesh and other third world countries where people are paid as little as $8 per week to work 50-60 hours clicking on your ads, over and over, all day long." Please provide some proof on that statement.

Now I just translated some testimonials from your DonBurk (.com) site in your signature from the client testimonials page - Here is what they have to say -

          Hi sameolesong,

Hat tip to you, you are a master sleuth. You win the Internet for the day.

You were close, that website was built probably around October 2000, I think. By the way it took me all of 7 minutes to build and launch, and it was an original design not a template or theme. I created it the same day AdWords was launched to the public.

To date, the website has operated continuously for well over 165,000 hours.

I keep it for nostalgic purposes because it brought my many clients back then, including one website that broke 7.5 billion in annual revenue. I guess i am a little sentimental , or nostalgic.

The funny thing is about 2 or 3 years back people suddenly started complimenting me left and right over the design, turns out that the retro look was the latest web design trend there for a while and they were complimenting me for nailing it, LOL.

          Thanks for noticing.

        Hi Larry,

Sorry if I hurt your feelings, no malice was intended, I just wanted to head off any WF members that my be seduced by the siren call of $0.01 clicks on the search networks.

I see now that you may have taken my reply as personal, it wasn't meant to be personal, just protective of other members here.

You assert that I think "countries outside of Tier 1 countries are worthless". To be clear I never said that, you said it. There is plenty of value in other traffic from most countries, so I won't try to defend your assertion. I'm sorry if I didn't state it clearly enough.

I did say that "one cent clicks" (that's the distinction) are nearly worthless, and from my years of experience that has been true. I will assert it again, once cent clicks are worth less than one cent on average regardless of which country. It's the value of the click that matters. If nearly all of those clicks are originating from PTC it's a complete waste of time and money.

You have all the proof you need within your Marketing Analytics. If you need help spotting that data you're welcome to grant me "report only" access to your Google Analytics and I'll be happy provide a report that shows exactly where your penny per click traffic is originating from, server logs can be substituted if you don't have a GA account.

If you are tracking the Value Per Click data you will likely see that it is less than a penny and yielding a negative ROI. I think we all would be impressed if that is not true. Please share if I am wrong.

Not many business people read this forum anymore so congratulations to you for your expert sleuthing. You caught me with my digital pants down. Ha ha... The website is a training tool for a my new employee in training, We tear it down and rebuild it many times over the course of a year. You are welcome to check back in a few weeks to see how they are progressing. You might actually be impressed.

By the way, I welcome public scrutiny from all sincere posters on this forum, by listening to others and looking for a grain of truth we can all learn things from time-to-time. This forum used to be a magnificent place to discuss marketing ideas back in the day when real marketers and business owners used to hang out here.

There are very few real business owners here these days, but I enjoy discussions on those rare occasion one drops by to discuss marketing. Feel free to put me in my place is you see the need, I don't mind a bit.

LOL - I think it's actually a combo of languages used by Don's clients in their testimonials. Google translator was rather confused & initially said "try out Bing for this one".

LOL, Zahalli? Never heard of it. Which galaxy is that in?

I'm pretty sure it's Russian, as I think the guy who created that template was a Russian developer, but I could be wrong, tell me more about Zahalli, is it a good place to vacation?
