naming a wordrpress blog
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

Hi,
 I would like to replace my blogger blog with wp theme blog on my PIPs site. I would like to name the blog a specific purpose name ( subdomain????) yet I want it to reside on my current Home Business Ideas and Opportunities at eBizDame.com PIPs site and contribute to the increase of page numbers of my site. I guess another way of saying it is that I want a separate id for the wp blog yet I do not want it to be a separate entity and a new website. I am a Newbie and I am quite confused. Is there anyone who would be able to give some advice.
Thank you,
Dita

Hi Dita,

There should be no problem in achieving what you want to do.

In your main directory you need to setup a new file/folder called "blog" or if as you say you already have a blog associated with your website you may already have this file......in which case setup a new file/folder called "wpblog" - open the new file/folder and upload wordpress into it......once installed, you can then go into your wordpress control panel and name it anything you want.

My pips site url is 2nd-income.biz and my blog url is 2nd-income.biz/blog - my blog name however is "online home business tips".

As far as uploading wordpress to host4profit is concerned, there is another thread somewhere here that will help with that http://www.warriorforum.com/plug-pro...my-server.html

I hope this helps

Graham

Aside from what Graham said, instead of naming the folder "wpblog", name it something more meaningful. I think that's what you're getting at, right? For example, I named my folder "work-from-home-blog" using keywords that I'm targeting. So, the url for my blog is www.replaceyoursalary.com/work-from-home-blog.

The title I use for my blog is Work From Home Resources, which as Graham said, can be setup in your WP dashboard.

Hi Graham,
thanks for your tip. I checked your site and your blog briefly (great site btw and a great theme). You see I was wondering if for example your blog's name could not be created with its own domain name such as "online home business tips". com /blog and if it could not exist on it's own yet be part of your PIPs website and contributing to the page count or the "long tail"? The reason I am interested in that is that eBizDame name itself does not reflect the information that I want to provide in my blog but I love my name and don't want to change that. Forgive me for my newbieness.
thank you,
Dita

I'm not exactly sure what you're getting at but it could be called http://www.ebizdame.com/onlinehomebusinesstips. You just create a folder named onlinehomebusinesstips in your root directory (first page when you log into your files) and upload wordpress into it. Then inside the WP blog you can title it what ever you want. If you want to change the domain name you would need to register a new domain with the name you want then install Wordpress in the root and it would be your home page.

Also you can create as many wordpress blogs as you have SQL data Bases to install into. I think you have 5 Data Bases with H4Profit.

To get trhe exact help you need contact Houdy, WordPress Installation Service, WordPress Max | WordPress Guides For The Geek Impaired, he is an active PIPs member and a WordPress professional. Plus you are going to need to install plug-ins such as Headspace, All In One SEO, and some others. He can help with that so you have what you need.

Well I have been following this thread but still confused as to what exactly you want to do? You have several options.

1. Just add a blog to the existing domain in a subfolder as the others suggested: yoursite.com/blog. Probably the easiest way to get started with WordPress. The WordPress theme will not look like the existing PIPS site, but in my opinion that isn't a bad thing...

2. Convert your existing site to operate entirely on WordPress. Do this only if you are comfortable with WordPress. However if done right and you don't like it, the old site can be restored.

3. Use WordPress on an entirely new domain. This will really have nothing to do with or will be related to the existing or old domain/site but you can add links to both the old and new site to somewhat tie them together.
