Hi! Just looking into becoming an Amazon affiliate. Do I understand correctly that Amazon's cookies are only good for 24 hours? The relatively low referral fees are (more or less) offset by the volume of shoppers and their broad (& deep) range of products. But hoping someone will buy right then & there, without further browsing for price comparisons, etc - that's nuts! I mean, even if "my" buyer looks at something she likes at work, say, Friday morning and waits 'til Saturday afternoon when she has a little quiet time at home and decides to buy then ... I don't get paid?! Nutso! Or am I missing something here? Thanx, Richard |

I don't know about missing something - or if it is cookie related - I had a few Amazon stores before and made ridiculously low commissions even when my sales were high. Then they lowered the commission rate even more, so I quit them. I had both my own site that had hundreds of Amazon products (toys) and I had their free store front (cooking gadgets) Thinking that being on a site like Amazon is like being in a real shopping mall where people will just happen by is ludicrous. Nobody knows you are there unless you market. (I laugh at this because I actually used to believe the WWW was like a huge shopping mall and on your way to Microsoft you would just have to 'walk by' my store)... heheheheh ... but to your issue - cookies - yes 24 hours doesn't seem right at all. With PIPS the cookie is 1 year - however the rub is that if they get your cookie and then somehow end up on another PIPS site as part of a Google search or some other way, then that is the cookie they have (the most recent site visited) that they will go back to... |

Thanks. I noticed you mentioned 'PIPS' in your reply, and that you go by the handle 'PipsMod'. What is PIPS about? |
