Upload Page to Hostgator
Share on:

I used Suzanne Morrison's SEO Guide for the Plug-In Profite Site Owners to optimize my home page. All went well and uploaded to Hostgator. Does the home page change instantly? My old home page is still showing and I'm not sure if it's something I didn't do correctly or if I just need to wait.

Thanks for your help.

It could be that your browser has a saved version of the old homepage. Try refreshing your browser and possibly emptying your cache.

Now I'm afraid I've really messed it up. I cleared the cache and now all that is appearing when I type in my website is hostgators website start up guide. Not good.

Yes, the old html index is still in the site and renaimed indexold. Am I supposed to totally remove this? The guide did not say to do this.

Help!

There can only be one index.html on a domain. indexold.html will not interefere with anything - if you messed up the new site, however, you can just rename indexold.html back to index.html to have the old version of the site until you fix it again.

Remember the files need to be in the public_html (web root) directory. So if you are using FTP it is probably in that directory and just needs to be moved.

... and really you could easily just copy and paste the source code for index.html into a new file that you name that in public_html.

Hi Teresa...

Sorry to hear about your problem. I've dealt with Suzanne many times changing my website. Send her an email, I'm sure she will get to it real quick. I've never had any problems with her work.

I got everything sorted out with Hostgator and see my mistake of only having one index.html on the domain. Thanks for your help. I was using Suzanne's free ebook to help myself optimize the website.
