Most important skill sets

Hi Everyone,
I am a newbie and been going only one month. Can anyone give me some clear straightforward guidance about the most important skills I need to acquire to promote my site and where I can get the info? (I am pretty new to computer speak in general so it would be helpful if you did not assume I already know all the terms).
Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve,

I suggest you to use :

1. Traffic Exchange : to get your site viewing by visitor.
2. Link Exchange : with your same niche partner.
3. Get Backlink : with do follow site just making comments.
4. Tweet your site.
5. Facebook ads, group, or networkblog.

Try that first, very easy for newbie, good luck.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is critical to your success as is Search Engine Marketing (SEM).

There are many free resources on the Internet that will help you. One of my favorites is SEOBook.com - just join free (they won't pummel you with email) so you can use their tools.

If you are doing the 30 Days to Success training in PIPS it does go into several SEO techniques.

I believe as a newbie that you need to start with the simplest of procedures while you learn more and more every day about the more technically challenging procedures. Traffic exchange programs such as Traffic Swarm are good, participating in forums is easy as you are finding out and promoting your site on social networks (Facebook, etc.) is useful. You should then move onto mass emailing through an autoresponder system. Just my opinion.

Hi Steve...

Do not expect to make a lot of money in the first 6 months at least. It takes time.

I'd work on my SEO hard. Get the right keywords. Make comments on other blogs. Build up your backlinks. Write articles for your blog at least 3-4 times a weeks, you need lots of content. Write other articles for article directories at least a couple of times a week.

I know right now...you probably have information overload. But just stick to it. Take the information you have been given....and use it.

Make a plan...a blueprint if you will...of just how you are going to attack this thing called Internet marketing. Make changes as necessary. Set up a schedule for the tasks that need to be done.

The perfect solution for a perfect site is a mixture made from a good quality content and good SEO. It won't work without one of them. And you'll have to wait, because it takes time until you will get some money from your work. Good luck!

As I posted in another thread of yours Steve, persistence will pay off.

If you focus more on paid advertising and you stay consistent, then you will do well.

Don't forget:

Anytime you are bringing in visitors to your site and no one buys right away, just know that many of them are bookmarking your site for later consideration. They may visit your site today and buy only a month after.

So your goal is to keep new visitors coming in on a daily basis.

For non-paid traffic, I usually tell my clients to either pick between creating articles or videos. If you want traffic to your site fast, create them on sites like Ezinearticles or Youtube and then link back to your money site. Also, it's better to crank them out over time versus doing the single shotgun approach.

Re: Most important skill sets

I think that the first thing you need to do is get your feet wet and read and learn as much as you can about internet marketing. After that, purchase a basic program from Clickbank that you think you would like to start out with. I say Clickbank because if it doesn't work, you can get your money back.

Learn that program completely without switching to something else in mid stream. You must master the basics of internet marketing before you go on to other things. Make that program work, and you will be on your way to working another program successfully.

Just, don't spend a lot of money if you don't have it. Some basic things can be ran with almost no money investment, just time. So, don't get into a big hurry. You can make big mistakes if you don't take the time to learn the basics.

Hope this helps.

FOCUS!

Learn to focus on what you are doing. I've seen lots of people come here and state they spend hours upon hours online everyday. They ask question after question about all sorts of things and nothing is consistent. I'm willing to bet that in all the hours they spend online each day maybe one of those hours is actually productive for their business. There's email, facebook, Twitter, and idea pops up, a hobby pops up, some one messages, do a few searches, look at a few products, everything but actually finishing a marketing task.

Pick a marketing strategy and focus on it. Don't stop with it until you have learned it inside out and have mastered it. Schedule your time, an hour for reading, an hour for implementing what you've learned, an hour for forums etc.. Then get some head phones, listen to Ocean sounds, and do exactly what you planned to do for that time period.

Re: Most important skill sets

Action!

Don't just buy an ebook or other training material then look at it and say you'll get to it later, because you never will. You got it so read it. Then take what you have learned and apply it. Take action on every thing you learn.

Hundreds, even thousands, of people buy programs, blue prints, IM specific training and coaching, courses, videos and more to learn how to market online. One of the first courses I ever bought was extremely popular, thousands of people bought it. I figured the tips and tricks taught would be saturated with people from the course using them online. I was very wrong. The same with a WSO I had a few months back. I sold over 100 copies of the product. A couple months later I did a Google search and looked for people who had used what they bought. I found about 9 websites using the material.

In-action is why people stay broke. Those who take Action are the ones who see success.

Focus on what you are doing and then take action on what you learn. Those to me are the two most important skills you can have.

DEDICATION:

Too many people give up after the 1st month whether thats with PIPS or anything else they are involved in. A refusal to "lose" is one of the greatest attributes you can have. Its not only the greatest athletes in the world such as Michael Jordan, but world leaders and everyday people trying to feed their family...

Jim Valvano:

"Dont give up....dont ever give up".

Take care

Hi Steve,

Some great advice here from the members, I think it is most important that you get into a routine and stick to it. Don’t fire fight with all the info that is being given when you are starting out because you can’t take it all in and you can’t do everything.

Give yourself specific tasks every day (free ones if possible) and when each is done, move on to the next and keep that routine going and over time you will start to see results. The most important ones are SEO of your site, regular fresh content on that site, article submission to good quality directories (No 1), social networking sites, traffic exchanges, forum posts and commenting on other peoples articles and posts with a backlink to your site.

These are just a few of the many methods and you will pick up many more hints and tips from the experts, many of those are members here already so you can always get help,

to your success,

Mal.

learn how to write articles to submit at article directories. This will get you backlinks through syndication. Articles are the best first steps to take in IM. You don't have to outsource to get content for your website.
