Hi folks, I am quite aware of the advantages of allowing "do follow" blog comments e.g. enhanced traffic, increased content etc I am also aware of the disadvantages of allowing "do follow" blog comments e.g. increased spamming, passing link juice etc But the fine point i want to clarify is whether passing link juice to the commenter equates to bleeding page rank from the blog owner or the link juice is passed without bleeding the page rank of the blog owner. If the page rank of the blog owner is bled in the process of passing link juice to the commenter, how significant is this bleeding in comparison to the benefits of "do follow" in enhancing PR through such factors as enhancing content? Is it a net reduction from PR? Thank you for your views. |

There is absolutely no loss of PR by allowing "do follow" comments. Yes, the PR is passed on, but you don't lose any. I recommend allowing "do follow" comments on your blog for the advantages you mentioned. You'll notice my blog has a PR 4, and I have "do follow" comments. I get quite a few comments on my blog, and I can tell you that my PR will only increase, not decrease. |

Is there a way to change a blog to do follow without necessary adding a plugin? How difficult is it to add or change a wp code to make a wp blog do-follow? Thanks, Lian | |

You will need to edit the core WP code to make it dofollow and then probably do it again with each upgrade. Much easier to add a plugin for it and there are many just Google it. I am using this one: DoFollow (WP Plugin) - Kimmo Suominen |

Lian, Houdy is an authority in that area and as he indicated, you have to manually change the codes. It is not an option that many adopt since there is an easier alternative (plugin). I am using Denis de Bernardy's (Semiologic) Do Follow Plugin on my wordpress blog. Do you have a specific reason why you don't want to use the wordpress plugin? |

I would second Houdy and Dele's recommendation in using the Do-Follow plug-in. Takes like 2 seconds to install... literally. No code to mess with ever.

Thanks. Isn't having too many plugins slowing down loading time? I hope I am wrong. Lian

Hacking the core code of WP can be even worse. Too many of the wrong type plugins may cause loading problems. Those are the types that rely too heavily on the database or other websites. This isn't one of those. In most cases this is a simple one-file plugin.

Thanks Houdy, Alan & Dele. I have like 15 plugins already but will give this one a try as I am keen on keeping my site do-follow. In addition to advantages of do-follow that Dele mentioned, I think it's unfair of me to expect link juice from others' blog while not giving out any from my own. (I speak for myself here in this one). Thanks, Lian

You are quite right Lian, as i do take that into consideration in giving link juice and i guess many others do too. If you don't give link juice, i see no reason why i should give you link juice, except your comment is extraordinarily useful.
