adword campaign

If I am trying to work up an adword PPC campaign and am using their tool to find keywords. I find that, for example, the keyword , make money online, gets millions of hits which I presume will mean that its going to be expensive to bid for and if I do my sums will not make me money so should I look for more middling (ie less searched) keywords in the hope they are cheaper?
What is the right strategy on this?
Also with regards to articles and blogging keywords/anchor text, should you try to keep your keywords consistent with your PPC campaign or do they not relate?
