Does anyone else take the mandatory day off every week? Is it just me or is it complete torture? :p I totally understand the point of it...it is good to take a break, but it seems like I have to force myself to do so. When I'm sitting and reading, my mind is just overflowing with ideas and things to do...it's hard to concentrate on the reading! I guess that the torture of a day off motivates me even more for the next week! It's just after 1am and I can hardly sleep...guess I can get a start on day 15's activities. Thanks Warriors for listening...err reading. Have a good night and much success to all.

Yes I am like that Jeremy - I have to force myself not to sit at my PC 7 days a week. One of the first articles I ever wrote as a newbie was 'When You Work At Home, You Can't Go Home From the Office'. However after my first year of 12-15 hour days at the PC I started to have eye problems and trouble concentrating. This taught me I have to rest. So even though I am online 12 hours, 6 days and a few hours off and on the 7th day, I really force myself to get away. I try to practice what I preach which is the only way to overcome information overload is to take time away - your brain can only take so much at a time. I try to remember what a job counselor once told me - never ever put on your resume' that you are a perfectionist or a workaholic. That is the worst thing you can be - perfectionists never finish anything and workaholics eventually burn out and really don't accomplish anything by killing themselves. Not to rain on your parade of motivation and excitement - you can do that with your eyes closed - then take action when you are refreshed! |

Ha! I would love to see that article...going to have to look it up. But I don't consider it work when I'm having fun! It's sort of like rebuilding a classic car or remodeling a house...hard work, that you have to do in your spare time, but you love it and can see the future value of it!

hey Jeremy... I guess I'm a lot like you. But, I do try to cut down on the hours each day. Instead 10-12 hrs....I'll do 8-10 hrs. I'm still on the computer, but doing research or reading. I've got a few niches where I have to do more research, so I can learn about them, they are a little new to me. Then...if I do have an idea pop in my head...I'll make a note to myself. |

Yeah, I try to stay away from the computer (impossible) too. I read offline the SOGR, and Success Magazine. But reading those is plenty enough to ignite more fires and ideas so I just write them down. I do make my way here to the forum to put a few thoughts down too...fun, fun, fun!

Yes Jeremy, even if you are very excited, if you don't take a day off, or at least several hours in a row, from staring at the computer, eventually you will get VDT over-exposure, your face will feel all tight and funny, and then your head will explode! Liane |

If you are interested in making money , you won't find it hard to sit in front of PC/laptop unless your family member reminds you to get out !!

Hi, Jeremy: I completely relate to it being "torture" to take a day off from my computer and marketing activities! I work from home as a freelance writer and as an Internet Marketer and when I'm sitting here being productive, just like you, it invigorates me and inspires me with all kinds of ideas and motivation. When I have to be away from the computer, all I can think about is getting back to work! Fortunately, working from home allows me to take breaks whenever I want to or need to, so that has preserved my relationship with my dear spouse. I can give her attention, or work on household or yard projects with her at my leisure. (It's just that those things are not as fulfilling as working on creative Internet Marketing things! lol) GT |

| Thanks for reminding me GT...tomorrow is my day off. Guess it means an evening of cramming!! haha, never thought that I would not be excited about a day off. But I will take it...and read, reflect, and plan ahead. I may even do some reflecting in the forum...Carpe Diem!!

It's not just you. One of the things about working online is that we tend to just go, go, go, and go more. I've been doing this for ten years, and the one main thing that I have learned is that you have to MAKE yourself take time off. There are no time clocks, so make yourself one! Our brains and bodies need a break and time off. I keep telling myself that LOL. Cindy |

Thanks Cynthia for reiterating what I have said - My wake up call was way back in my first year - After a multitude of 12-17 hour days online it was a holiday and I was going to get the heck out of here and go visit my son. Going about 65 mph in the fast lane, the brake lights suddenly went on in the car in front of me. I slammed on my brakes to avoid rear ending them, the truck in back of me only missed rear ending me by driving into the emergency lane. ... Only to then see that car in front of me was at least 1/4 a mile in front of me. That is when I knew the true meaning of 'MY EYES ARE FRIED'. Literally I was locked into seeing things being about as far away as my monitor. Well, after about 2 miles the truck driver gave up flipping me off and went on with his life. I know he had a good reason to be mad. It was a major wake up call that I need to rest my eyes - The irony is that I am always preaching ergonomics which tells you to ONCE AN HOUR look at something as far away as you can, get up and stretch, take cat naps, etc. That is when I started practicing what I preach (mostly)... |
