Autoresponders and HostGator
Share on:

I'm wondering if someone could kindly let me know what they did when transferring from Host4Profit to HostGator with your Getresponse autoresponder and the pre-loaded year+ worth of newsletter emails? It seems HostGator isn't much help in that Dept. and they only have sort of a Broadcast type message capability.

Thank you!

Your auto-responder is hosted at Get Response...so you shouldn't need to worry about that. Just need to move all the HTML files over to Host Gator...and the code to get people in your auto-responder will move with it.

Yes Jeremy is right - apples and oranges.

The only piece that is related is the mail forwarder aka email alias. Where in Host4Profit we set up to forward mail from support@yourdomain.com (the return address on your newsletter) to your private email address, this is now done in Mail/Forwarders at HostGator.

Hi, thanks Jeremy and Pat! Or should I say Apt! Very appropriate new name for you

So just to confirm, all the preloaded autoresponder Plug-in Profit Site messages should still get to all my newsletter subscribers still, it's only the hosting that has changed? yay!

However, they tell me at HostGator that all my email accounts will have to be recreated. What does that mean?

Pat, I have added the forwarded email to my HostGator account as you suggested.

Is there anything else I need to change/do?

I must add a comment, say my peace...that while I'm sure it was for the best intentions, I am so sad about this whole switch from Host4Profit to HostGator. Host4Profit WAS my biggest paycheck, I have stuck it out with them until now because I am a loyal supporter and fan of them, but it's just not working out for me anymore since the switch, and so, I am sorry to leave them, and feel bad for being grumpy and impatient with them, and I am in mourning for Host4Profit

But alas, with change comes reincarnation, growth, and renewal! May HostGator be worth it, and my experience with them even more positive and rewarding, and may I begin a new journey as a loyal, long-term supporter of another great service.

As far as i know, you can still continue to promote host4profit and earn commissions even when your site is no longer going to be hosted with them, as long as you've met some terms i.e hosted with them for up to some months, which others more current can give you specific details of.

And the learning curve continues....I switched to HostGator and now my new blog doesn't work/I have no access to it. Let's hope Host4Profit is going to be able to help me out without having lost 6 months worth of posts, my template, and all my changes!

HI Liane -

I too mourn Host4Profit everyday -

I still use them for my personal hosting and Pluginprofitsite.com is still there, so at least for the most important site I can still contact H4P.

However, since all new members are required to go to HostGator, there are a lot of problems now setting up new accounts where I don't have David H. to help me when people give me the wrong information.

HG is also very helpful and there 24/7 but they have security issues where they can't help me beyond general questions so there is a lot of going around in circles to keep the customer in the loop in order to resolve anything.

The thing is in order to be part of the free HostGator affiliate program you do NOT have to use their hosting. That is one of the good points.

(and you can still promote H4P as non-hosted affiliate - but the commissions are 1/4 = $2.50 vs. $10. per month)

Another good point is that they have a free service to transfer your files from the old host if it is your primary and first domain hosted by them.

I am relatively certain that your only problem with your blog is one in the settings - for example the location of the files = address, etc. on the blogger app - as long as the files are all in the public_html (web root) along with your home page on the host.

Make use of HG Live Chat 24/7 - Web Hosting Services, Reseller Hosting, and Dedicated Servers by HostGator for any questions.

p.s. nothing else you need to do about the forwarder.

p.s. s.Apt is actually my original name for a home business years before I started online. TheAptConsultant. I have a new one also now and that is TheAptConsultant-B2B.us (B2B = business to business) - have domain but no need to advertise it since I am more than fully booked b2b.

Did it just because of the word 'apt' of course and it is the same letters as 'pat' - but now ironically it works for the abbreviation for apartment too 'apt' - my home is an apartment - wonder if it will ever catch on apartment business vs home business? LOL

p.s.s.s. - great seeing you back here!

Don't you ever stop doing what you're doing Pat!!! You're the woman!!!

However, I have tried everyone's help and I still don't know what I'm doing - I think I've lost the new blog - I do have the Archives folder in my HostGator index.html, but it only has the archives for the old blog, not the new blog. I had Darrin set up my Self-Hosted WP Blog. I didn't do a backup because everything looked good to me at HostGator, but I guess I didn't notice that the Archives only contains my old blog not my new blog.

I created a mySQL dbase, but don't know how to link it with my blog.

I cannot login to WP - they have no recollection of my username even.

And no word back from David at H4P - I suppose I might not hear from him now.

Anyways, I will have to look at this again tomorrow or Sunday, so I will get back to you Allen then!

Thank you!

Liane - contact Darrin - he will know exactly what to do and if he did your blog he probably won't even charge you...

Thank you for the kind words, my Friend. See why I like that you are back?

Enjoy the day! It's a rainy day today here in the Indianapolis Metro area...so perfect to drink a cup of coffee and write articles. :p

Yes that is the right address, Liane - repeat the email after 72 hours if you don't hear back from him.

Have fun!
