Hi when i started plug in profit i was a complete newbie and in hindsight did not pick a very good domain name. Am i able to get a new domain name and transfer my site over?

Domain Name Change:

#1 – Register a new domain – highly advise registering directly with the Host at http://www.hostgator.com/domains so that they can help you with some of the technical issues below.

#2 – Contact HostGator and ask them to add that domain to your hosting account.*

#3 – Ask them to help you change the DNS (domain nameservers) **

#4 – Send me the new domain name along with your hosting account login information: control panel link, cpanel username and password and I will change the site and all the PIPS databases to the new name

* if you have a Hatchling hosting account it only allows one (1) domain – so you will need to ask them to ‘replace your primary domain’ with the new one OR you can upgrade your account to BabyCroc for a few more dollars and that allows unlimited domains so you can just add the new one and keep the old one too.

** since you are registering the domain after setting up the hosting account, the HostGator sales department will give the name generic DNS which does not match your hosting account DNS. That is why you have to change it to the DNS in the original hosting account welcome letter.

I have been thinking about changing my domain name and it hit me that if i do that, i will lose all the backlinks i have worked hard to get and all the promotion will have been for nothing and i will have to start from square 1.

How important is the domain name in my quest to rank highly in the search engines?

Is it worth changing now and starting again?

Keywords in the domain name are not that critical - very small points with the SEs - vs. no keywords according to at least one SEO expert...

You have Money and Marketing included in your domain name - not too shabby.

IMHO I would say leave it alone and keep the backlinks -

I get About 570 results for your domain on Google - that is considerable in 30 days (GOOD JOB!) - I would really say leave it!
