I finally switched from Host 4 Profit to Host gator and I requested that my domain get transfered but I still have not heard back from them. I contacted Pat...(Shes such a great help) and she pointed me in the the right direction to change my dns to point to host gator. My question is... my domain has not been transfered yet so should I still go in there and make the change to point to host gator or wait for them to make the change? will this effect all my advertising pages hosted on my old account before they make the change? Thanks in advance for your help. Dan Rose |

Dan, If you move the DNS before you move your website and your database, you will take your site off the air. My suggestion is to first - while you still have access to H4P is to do a complete back up of your domain and of all your databases (if you have more than 1). Download them to your hard drive or a spare drive. Once they are downloaded, you can then upload them to HostGator, create a new database for your blog or anything else you may have... While you can then upload and unzip the files on your Hostgator account, I prefer to unzip them on my computer and then upload to my domain. You also will need to upload your databases and link them to your domain. Depending on the size of your site, this should only take less than 1 hour and once everything is uploaded, you can change your DNS from H4P to HostGator and if you have everything uploaded you should be back in business. Once everything has been properly uploaded all of your backlinks and your advertising pages will operate as they are today. (Or you can wait for H4P to transfer everything - in addition, you could have HostGator move everything for a fee and thus ensure everything is set up properly). Best of luck. Allen P.S. I like how you have made your site unique to many other PIPS sites - good job. |

Hi Allen, Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. I almost changed the DNS yesterday but not knowing what would happen, I left it alone. Patience goes a long way and sometimes I don't have any. Glad I did in this case I think I'll wait and let Host gator move everything... sounds much easier for me and time is one of those things that I struggle to find these days. Thanks for the compliment on my website. I have tried to do different things, some good, some not so good but thats how we learn. I must admit... I haven't promoted PIP that much but the fire is lit again and so I'm going to start making PIP one of my top priorities again. PIP is a great system and I know there is a lot of potential with PIP. Thats how I started, three years ago and look at me now. Thanks again Allen for the great advice! Have a great day my friend! Dan |
