what does this mean?

hey team,

Happy New Year and i hope you are great,

I keep getting emails from wordpress saying a new comment on the post blah blah blah is waiting for your approval?

I dont understand the comments at all? are they links or something?

here is an actual example of a comment i got:

DbV5G6 gzlrqnvmjxgo, hkegnduhoqom, [link=http://itaqqhbtzzst.com/]itaqqhbtzzst[/link], http://rfpxozuetpbf.com/

FIRSTLY I HAVNT GOT A CLUE WHAT IT MEANS, IS IT SPAM? IS IT A LINK?

DO I APPROVE THEM OR NOT?

SPAM SPAM SPAM.

My rule of thumb, if I can't understand it, or the comment appears to have absolutely no relevance to my site or my site's content, I delete it, or mark it as SPAM.

That link and any link that looks like it, personally, I would mark as SPAM

Hi Chrissy,

You answered your own question....LOL. Allen is "right on". If its not relevant to your site or you dont understand it I just delete or mark as spam. This doesnt provide any value to your readers and that is what your looking for...

Yep they are right, if it isn't relevant to your post it's most likely Spam.

Since you have Wordpress do you have Askimet active? If not sign up for an Askimet API Key and enter in the proper place on your Blog. Get it here Stop Comment Spam and Trackback Spam « Akismet It will remove most of the Spam comments and mark others so you can quickly delete them.

As far as comments go, if they are relevant to your post and seem appropiate it is ok to approve them. The comment will include a link back to the Commentators website and that is also OK. Just make sure the site it's linking back to is appropiate.

If you comment on another persons blog make sure you read the post you are commenting on and then make a relevant comment. This will give you a backlink also.
