Really Overwhelmed Newbie Here!
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

Hi there

I'm just posting here because I feel I seriously need some guidance/tips to set up my home business.

I have an affiliate link website, on which are links to MWP, SFI, GDI, and a couple of others, all of which I've subscribed to (the site was built through the PIPS). The trouble I'm having is how to get traffic to my site. I know that it is of paramount importance to build an email list, but I honestly have no-one to get into that list - I have no viable contacts. I'm only 18, so the only people I know are my fellow students (who don't have the money or the inclination for this sort of thing) and my family (who definitely wouldn't appreciate my contacting them about this). My situation doesn't really lend itself well to building an email list. Is there any other way that I could build my list, bearing in mind I really don't have much money?

I know that's the main issue, because once you get the traffic to your site the products tend to sell themselves right?

Trying to think of the other things I've done: I subscribed to Google AdWords and have listed my site using the keywords that are on my signature, I've built up over 50 backlinks to my site by subscribing to various internet forums, I've also subscribed to other sites (I can't remember their names - sorry!) that drive traffic to my site, and I've written ads and ezines, but I don't actually know if they've been posted or not. I add at least one new article to my site every day, have created a facebook page linking to my site, and have synched it to my twitter account.

So essentially I think I have done quite a lot and have all the tools to promote my site, but I can't seem to get it all to work for me. I've only been in the business for about two weeks, but I feel I perhaps should have earned something by now... Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Leanne

To get people to sign up for a list, you can give something away for free. Write up a good collection of advice, perhaps?

Getting traffic is of course a pre-requisite. What you can do there is be active on forums such as this one (but one related to what you do), have a link in your signature and participate in discussions.

You can submit your well written to article directories such as goarticles and ezinarticles; you can submit your site to bookmarking sites and places such as digg, reddit, etc. You can also do a bit of blog commenting at sites where a link to your site is allowed.

You can also have a Facebook Page, and ask your friends to Like it, and you can post information there regularly.

Twitter is easy to set up too, and can bring you some visitors as well.

Those are some ways to get traffic and build a list. Hope that helps!

2 weeks is consider a very very short period of time for you to gauge your progress let alone make any sales with PIPS. I started like you too, I have invested in plug in profit site but in the end I gave up because apart from having difficulties in getting traffic to my website and make sales, I have to pay the subscription fees for some of the affiliate programs which really turns me off and make my financial situation worse.

I am not discouraging you, PIPS is a good program if you can get targeted traffic to your site. OK, I think one of the best way to get traffic to your PIPS is via article marketing. This is a free method and quite an effective one to get targeted traffic to your site. Try this method first for at least for a couple of months. I am sure you can get some sales thru them.

When I started I have no one to advise about this method. I was only advised to pay some more monthly fee for the advertisements which are making thing worse for me.

Try writing quality articles about home business opportunities etc and submit them to ezinearticles and the likes. Try to write consistently and I am sure you will see the results that you want. Good luck

Hi Leanne,
First, congrats on starting the journey into the IM world. I'm a pop to 6 kids so I know how impatient you are to see this work for you at your age. That you have been able to do all that you have done in only a couple of weeks puts you way ahead of most.

It takes time and patience to build a real business. I don't know what your product is but doing research before you pick a product is important. Who is your target market?
If you try to sell Taco's to a crowd of Hamburger lovers, you need to find the Taco crowd, eh?

Next thing, ENJOY the process. If you go at this for what's in it for me that shows up in everything you write. Be your own best test subject.. How would YOU respond to the product you are presenting. Folks out there are really no different than you. They don't talk like a commercial, they just share info on coll things they have found and share it with each other.

Again, just enjoy the journey and make it fun. If you do that a real funny thing will happen. You'll start being rewarded..

Cheers, Doc

Leanne,
Ok i'm going to be straight up with you here. Firsly yes the make money niche is one of the most profitable but and it's a big but as a new comer to im you are competing with people that can invest time and serious money into their marketing. In my view you are starting in one of he most competitive niches.
Ok, your website to me is all over the place as to what you want me to do. What i mean by this is you are asking me to join your mailing list, read number of buy this product. I'm confused! Your website really needs to do one thing well. You need to funnel your visitors to complete that action.
Good luck.

Hey Lele

The biggest issue i see you are having is you are ALL OVER THE PLACE

You wrote an article, then facebook then twitter, google adwords, backlinking, forums.

You are going to need to slow down, you won't get anywhere jumping from one
traffic method to another then another.

You mentioned that you have your website up and ready right...Good
You also mentioned your advertising budget is low...That not a problem.

This is what you will need to do...Pick ONE free traffic method that interest you.

Video Marketing, Articles, Social Media (Twitter,Facebook, Linkedlin), SEO,
Press Releases.....Now after you pick that traffic method. Do everything you can
to master it. Once you mastered that traffic method then move on to the next one.

Lele below are some low cost traffic products that overdeliver.

These traffic products will help you get started. You don't need to buy all of them
just one.

Kim Roach http://www.buzzblogger.com/td/

Marlon Sanders The Traffic Dashboard

George Brown George Brown's Traffic Ultimatum

Remember you don't need to buy all of them just one course.
Study and Master ONE Traffic Method and Then move on to the next one.

hope that helps

You have a PIPS site - and there is a forum section here devoted to Stone's program. You might get better info there. You are dealing with MLMs and that's not fast money. But, then, other methods don't pay in 2 weeks either.

When you start a new business - 2 weeks is nothing so settle in for the long haul.

thats great you have invested a lot of time getting the technical side of things organised so now you might want to review what your own goals and expectations are from an online marketing career.

Set aside some time to really assess what you will call "success online" - that might be regular income or it may be a certain size of mailing list. Set out to meet your realistic goals - which have to be achieveable in terms of the time you can spend on this work - and don't get disheartened by any set backs. Learn from them and move on.

Also never underestimate the power of the network of people around you. Your own friends and relatives may not be the key contacts you want or need, however they may all know people who ARE interested in what you do or can forward details to them.

I wish you every success. Be patient and focussed...and always willing to learn as you progress. good luck!

The thing I don't understand is this.

Have you done the 30 Days to Success training that comes with your PIPS site? It gives step by step instructions and includes numerous list building and traffic attracting strategies.

You build a list WHILE you are getting traffic to your site to make SALES - direct sales from the sales page and sales and prospects from your website.

The object is sales. The list is only prospective sales -so focus on SALES.

Two weeks is just at the very beginning of your journey. Please focus on the resources you have already been provided with in your PIPS member services area (the training, squeeze pages, videos, ebook)

Don't be in a rush - just build your foundation and develop your business from there. Don't lose your focus by running all over the place.

The best way to get traffic to your site is to pay for it.

I would use:

Banner advertising
PPC advertising
And find other work at home newsletters that accept email solo ad blasts

These 3 techniques are doing well for me and many others.

Hello I do understand your frustration in getting traffic, what helps is creating dynamic content such as, message board, link directory, guest book, picture gallery, quote of the day and a online search. The visitors interested will surely come back to check out more relevant content on your site such as having an item just for news content. Hope this helps to attracting more visitors over to your site. Stay encouraged as you share with the world your business for success.

Hi brother,
YOu should take seriously advice from Patrician.
I used to be just like you. Worry why no improvement in my biz.
After done evaluation of myself, the problem is me.
I'm not focus, jump from this x to this y to this z.

Try to mastering one or two of advertising method and wait for the result.

Currently my advertising method is article marketing campaign and at the same time updating my site regularly and build backlinks too increase my search engine ranking.

Notice when Mr Stone said about how powerful article marketing is, he really mean it.

Hi Leanne...

One thing I would suggest is change your keywords...if you haven't done that yet. The keywords that come with the PIPS program are highly competitive. Look some some different keywords with good traffic.

Then start building your backlinks.

I wasted about 4 months before I changed mine (lost time). I'm ranked on Page One of Google with different competitive keywords.

It takes a lot of time to get your website ranked well...but don't give up. If I cand do it....anybody can. You just have to make the commitment.

Hello Leanne

Im a new to pips as well, my advice might not all this but.........something that might help would be to get yourself in to habits.
what im trying to say is you talk about your fan page in "Facebook" but i will not look for it because i WILL never find it. huh you migh be thinking. Leanne ADVERTISE it so people can FIND IT- VIEW IT etc. use your link section below to advertise your fan page that you built yourself ( better check the grrrrr forum rules, but i think you could post it ).
do you get the point, you talked about your fan page but it can not be found.

so if you get in the habit of displaying links it has a big flow on effect.

keep up the work Leanne

Leanne,
Slow down a bit. If you've already done what you say you have, you're ahead of the game. You're doing great! Fact is...2 weeks? Google hasn't even indexed you yet in all probability. Did you submit your sitemap to them? Your control panel has it as well as your WP. Do you have regular email contacts? Keep submitting your articles and give it some time. Review 30 days to success and keep stroking. It will Happen! Chin up!

all those methods you are doing are saturated, and useless. all those methods require time and more time now. see before i could just add 5000 facebook friends in just minutes. now you try that with just 50 people and you get banned or something. i hope you get what am saying. me and you are almost the same age so i know how you feel.

I think anything can be a success if you believe in yourself, persist and enjoy what you are doing. I am on my 30th day today. I see progress...Its a great program. It is very hard not to get side-tracked or discourage when you don't get money right away, but you have to realize this will not happen overnight. He doesn't suggest you quit your day job. I see the projection of my results to take shape in a good 6 months or so. Good luck and keep on persisting

Real cool - you found a reason you would fail without even wasting any effort!

Hope that works for you.

I think what makes people quit early on in the IM business is their frustration after not being able to make money quickly, especially if they've made a lot of effort. I've seen people making their first sale anywhere from 2 weeks to a year and a half - it all depends on their dedication, choice of niche and keywords, and well, some luck too.

Personally, my I'll-be-happy-if-I-make-it deadline for a first sale is 3 months. In the meantime, I consider any increase in traffic to my site as success, and of course, continue on building back-links through articles, social bookmarks and stuff (not a big fan of PPC when you're not making any sales yet).

Patience and dedication is what keeps us in the game.

I've got to agree with Majay. I too am new to all of this. I've been finding myself jumping all over. When I do, I go back to the PIPS training, start at day one and review. I've been veiwing this as an investment & joined the coop's. I' ve been getting some traffic to my site but no subscribers or sales yet. Yet meaning I know they' re coming!!!

Speaking of dates Jack44, have you noticed the dates on these thread posts? The thread is just about a year old and the last comment was 10 months ago?
