Greeting everyone. I have started getting quite a few comments to my blog on my Pips wwebsite. Some of them aren't in very good english, and several come from the same website, different e-mails. I am wondering if these could be a problem or if it is someone looking to link to my site. If someone could take a look at my site, www.jccntry.com and check out the comments. If I was writing great posts, I could understand comments and be glad to get them. But these posts are kinda filler to get by until I have more time to devote to writing quality posts and some of these comments are over the top about my original "Welcome to my website" post that came with the setup. Can someone let me know if this is ok, or if I should be trashing these comments? Thanks for any guidance you can provide. Jerry |

You should trash comments that are not relevant to the content, as they are just trying to exploit the opportunity to post their own links. The bad English isn't so bad but the serial posters (same name, URL or email) is just plain spam and you should just kill them. I take it you are moderating your comments - which means they do not publish until approved? That's the way to go. If you have not installed any anti-spam plug-ins like Akismet (I think this one comes with the installation but needs to be kept up to date) or Spam Karma I think is another one - it will help to filter some of them out. Don't worry about your writing skills right now. One of the most important things anyone posted here years ago was 'so go ahead -- write a lousy article or ad' - nobody is going to hold it against you - you will get better as you go' - That gave me the courage to just jump in and DO IT! That is the most important thing. (however at the same time I can be a stickler when I see misspelled words or bad grammar - it just shows a lack of professionalism you don't want to convey while trying to build trust -- although this is even forgiven more because of non-English as a first language speakers in the global picture...) 'You don't get a second chance to make a first impression' so - 6 of one and half a dozen of the other - moderation - give it your best shot and try to improve your skills as time goes on. |

Exactly the kind of advice I was looking for! But then I have come to expect that from you Patricia. Yes, I moderate comments but I don't have Akismet installed I don't think, so I'm gonna go do that right now. Thanks, Jerry |

I just installed and activated Akismet on my site yesterday because I am now starting to receive comments like the ones you are receiving. I chose the $5 a month plan (for single site access), and I think it's worth it. You should try it too, so you can better manage commenting on your blog.
