Protecting Content On My PIPS Site
 

Hello everyone :)

I have a quick question. Once I start adding content to my website, especially articles, is there ways I need to protect that to help assure the content on my website, again, especially articles are not stolen or copied?
Any tips on this or where I can find information on this?

As far as your articles go, your website is copywrite protected. On the other hand any article can be copied. With Googles new duplicate content policy it will do no good to republish an article or blog post. Not only that, the article directories would also catch it. If it makes you feel better you can go to Copyscape.com and add it to your site.

Once you write an article, anyone can pick it up and post it on their site.

You can not do anything about that.

What you can do is post a resource box with your website in it and the person that uses your article must post your resource box at the bottom of the article.

It really doesn't matter if someone copies it anyway. Once you have posted it and Google has indexed it you will get the credit for it. People who copy content don't usually use it in it's original form. They take it and spin it so it's original in the Search engine eyes.

There is a good point to people using your content, you write good stuff and your site is popular.

I went to a site once looking for some content to get ideas and spinable content from and they had it protected. I highlighted the paragraphs i wanted to use and right clicked. It stopped me right there and said It was protected. So instead of right clicking I just hit Ctrl V and pasted it in my word processor. That's been a while but I remember thinking that person wasted some money on protection stuff.

Personally, I don't worry about someone stealing my articles. If they do, they do.

I spend my time worrying more about how I'm going to get my next sale, than I do about are my articles safe.

I put more time into ensuring that the articles I do post on directories and comments I make on blogs, have a link back to my website or blog.

If I loose an article or two, that is the price of doing business in today's online environment.

That's just me.

Thank you everyone, all this is so helpful, and I suppose I misunderstood the whole idea of protecting my website content. I'm a little slower than most on all the technical stuff, but I love the challenges so far... I'm learning so much, and before I start promoting too much, I want to have some of this techie stuff totally understood and out of the way. :-)

LOL, Well you naughty smart techie you...that is a great story! You have a point...if I deliver great articles, then it will be popular as you say and that's one of the main reasons people visit and revisit websites! I'm wanting to focus on article marketing and deliver great articles, so I suppose it would make sense if people want to copy and use your information to spread the word....I'll bet that would be a good way to get even more traffic is to tell people they are welcome to share what they learn from your website and offer free stuff or maybe a contest to those that promote your content the most. Hmmmm? Any ideas on how to do this?

Jenny - I just found a plug-in at Wordpress -

It is called "WP-Protect"

Go to your Admin dashboard
Click Plug-Ins

Click Add New
Search for 'wp-protect'

Install
Activate

"Protect your WordPress site against right clicks, text selection, and image dragging."

One you post an article into your site, it may be copied but the good news is that any copied article will always been noticed. The problem is therefore to the person who copied from you.

I wouldn't mind about someone copying my articles because as far as I know originality matters a lot. Yes you can copy but it will never be your own style. You have also to take note that most of the ideas you write about have ever been ideas to other people but you bring them out in a different way to add value. That's what makes you different from others.

When others copy your articles onto their web sites and use your resource box, isn't that good for you? I have a feeling they are selling you. What do you think about that?

What a great way to think about it! I've never thought about it in that manner? You have a really interesting concept of thinking, and I like that idea and now I hope people copy and paste like mad, and just sell me like madness, haha! I love the way you put that! I really hope your 500% right about that!:D
