PIPS 2.0 Update

WP-PIPS 2.0 (Wordpress PIPS 2.0) is almost ready for orders for anyone who has been waiting for this. If all goes to plan I will start talking orders this weekend! Price will be $97.00

WP-PIPS 2.0 Site: http://wplab.onlineworkfromhomejobs.net

Order here: http://www.onlineworkfromhomejobs.net/wp-pips20

Will run on both H4P and Hostgator although the auto uprade feature does not work with H4P unfortunately. My advice if planning on running Wordpress or any CMS would be to switch to Hostgator.

What is WP-PIPS 2.0?

It is built using the popular Wordpress platform, however it is not just your everyday Wordpress setup, it is packed full of features including...
  • Dotcomology Landing Page - Template can be applied to any page meaning you can create an unlimited number of splash pages, also great for A/B split testing.
  • Social bookmarking
  • Feedburner integrated feed including email subscription
  • Page peel banner
  • Adsense & Analytics ready
  • Highly search engine optimized
  • Easy automatic upgrade feature
  • Designed for maximum exposure to the Plug-in Profit Site opportunity as well as the newsletter to increase signups
  • Plus all of the usual benefits of running Wordpress
  • Includes over 20 plug-ins to add a ton of extra functionality
  • Pre-loaded with all of the mega site articles
  • Heavily "widgetized" which allows you to drag and drop content to over 30 different positions on the site

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Mike.

p.s. thanks to Mirza for allowing me to finish off the development of WP-PIPS 2.0 on her Hostgator hosting account.

It's uncanny but I swear earlier today I was going to post 'Has anybody 'seen' Mike Law!

I didn't think you had ever even been to the new forum!

Always wondering if it was something I said...

Happy New Year Mike! Welcome back.

I don't think Joomla is too complicated, but I do like the new WP site you have developed Mike. The organization looks better than ever, and is also probably easier to manage.

Nice work!

Dave

Re: PIPS 2.0 Update

Hi Mike,

I was thinking the same as Pat as I haven't seen you around lately but you have obviously been busy. I must admit I am now worried because I was happy enough with the old generic PIPS site when it came to changing the look using NVU but changed to the PIPS 2.0 to be different. I am reasonably happy with the look of my site and I find joomla not too bad but as of now for example I am getting error messages every time I try to optimise the meta tags and meta description on my site or amend/delete links that have expired which I have been trying to do for two weeks and it is very frustrating.

I have left a message on your forum about this but your comments about this version not working out has made me think now if I was right to change, I am sure there are pros and cons as with all things but all I want is a site that I can work with that doesn't throw up problems and error messages when I try. I like the look of your new WP version but I have already paid for the version I have got.

Mal.

Re: PIPS 2.0 Update

@Mal: The majority of the time installing the latest update will fix the issue. Joomla releases an update about once every 6-8 weeks but I would say very few PIPS 2.0 members are keeping their sites up to date. I see you are still on version 1.5.0 and they are now up to 1.5.8.

I will create a video this weekend on how to upgrade and for those that are having trouble I may offer an upgrade and full support service for a monthly fee.

@Dave: The Wordpress Version is much easier to use however has less features and not as flexible as the Joomla version. It's for those that don't have the time or simply just don't want to learn how to use Joomla.

Regards,
Mike.

Re: PIPS 2.0 Update

Hi Mike, I have an older version of Joomla but it is working fine. Is there a need to upgrade if everything works the way it is? Hopefully I amnot missing many good features by not updating.

Thanks
Steve

Re: PIPS 2.0 Update

Hi Steve, you should keep it up to date mainly for security reasons, as you would if you were running Wordpress or any other blogging platform or CMS. Apart from that each release includes bug fixes, performance improvements and new features.

It's really no different than keeping your software on your computer up to date.

If you have JoomlaPack you can do a backup in about 5 minutes or less before updating in case anything goes wrong.

Re: PIPS 2.0 Update

I want that wordpress one! Great work Mike! :D

I prefer wordpress over a static website any day of the week and all my sites except PIPS are on wp platforms.

How do we go about changing from the original site to this one?

Re: PIPS 2.0 Update

Hi Mark,

The site itself is about 90% complete, I then have to update the PIPS 2.0 order form to include the Wordpress version. I hope to have it all up and running and ready for orders this weekend. I'll use this thread to keep those who are interested up to date.

Cheers,
Mike.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your reply, I look forward to seeing your offers for the new version. You are right about me using the 1.5.0 version and not the 1.5.8. because we exchanged several emails at the time regarding my upgrade which for some reason would not upload and rather than beating myself up I decided to keep the older version as advised.

I am more than happy tp spend time learning Joomla and have done so with various changes to my site but I have been trying to re-evaluate all the back links, keywords and SEO on my site and am suddenly getting error messages again as soon as I try to save the changes so you can imagine my frustration. I have just joined the PPG and it is essential that I get this sorted out before I go any further so if thw WP-2.0 version will help to fix these problems then great.

p.s Is your forum still active as I have left one or two messages for you there and was worried that you had taken early retirement (LOL)

take care,

Mal.

Re: PIPS 2.0 Update

Hi Mal,

I believe upgrading to the new version will likely fix your site.

Yes the forum is still active however things weren't really moving in the direction I wanted them to. Too much time spent supporting issues people were having with Joomla which was mainly down to a combination of people not knowing how to keep the site up to date and not using the backup tool so that when things break (as they do) a backup could be easily restored. So I put a hold on support until I came up with a solution.

This was totally a misjudgment on my part, I was naive to the fact that most PIPS members don't have the technical knowledge to do a lot of things necessary to maintain and run a Joomla site properly, nor the time to learn how.

So I will continue to offer the site to PIPS members however I will be offering a monthly fee for those who want me to keep it up to date for them. I will start off at $47 a month and see how that works out.

This will probably include something along the lines of...
- Ensuring you are running the latest version of Joomla
- Ensuring all of your components and plug-ins are up to date
- Running a weekly back up
- Backing up your site for you if needed
- Implementing any improvements made to PIPS 2.0 (I am constantly making changes adding new components and features etc)
- Ensuring your site is properly SEO'd
- Skype instant message support (limited hours)

For those who don't want to pay for support I will still be offering support in the forum again as of next week once WP-PIPS 2.0 is up and running.

I had been toying with the idea of creating a Wordpress version for a while as I knew it would be much easier for non technical people to use but the main issue was with adding content outside of a post. The powerful thing with Joomla is you can add or delete virtually any content anywhere on the page without having to go into the source code.

However I had a play around implementing widgets into a Wordpress theme and discovered that you can actually use them anywhere on the page so that as with Joomla you can edit content anywhere on the page without having to go into the source code also. This is something which I think is really important.

Depending on the popularity of the Wordpress version I will also easily be able to create multiple templates, something which is not really possible with the Joomla version without a lot of extra work.

So I guess to boil it all down, my main goal was to create a web 2.0 type site where you could encourage others to come and contribute to your site and grow your own PIPS community. Wordpress doesn't have the built in membership functionality and as far as I know there aren't any plug-ins which allow Wordpress to be a real web 2.0 type platform. There are a couple of Wordpress fourm plug-ings which I will test at some stage. Maybe once Wordpress MU comes out of beta I might be able to do something cool with that.

So if you are looking for an easy to manage site where you simply want to add your own content easily or make changes to existing content which is extremely well SEO'd and requires little time and effort to learn to use and maintain then definitely go for the Wordpress version (WP-PIPS 2.0) or if you want a fully fledged content management system that is set up to build your own online community with a forum, user profiles, article submission etc and you are happy or able to spend the time to learn how to use it then go for the Joomla version which I guess I should now call JOM-PIPS 2.0

Cheers,
Mike.

Re: PIPS 2.0 Update

Hi Mike,

Thank you for your reply with a lot of great information. Based on what you have said I think I would be happier with the new version. I am willing to spend and have spent a lot of time with Joomla and whilst not being an expert I am not a dummy either so being able to ad, remove and edit content easily is what I and I suspect most users want.

I am not too bothered about an article directory on my website as that is something I didn’t have on the generic PIPS but a blog link is all I would ad for articles so I would be very interested in changing over as soon as you are able to do this. You give a great service and I am sure a lot of PIPSters will be interested in the new version.

regards,

Mal.

Re: PIPS 2.0 Update

After a LOT of time and effort WP-PIPS 2.0 is almost ready! I have really put a lot of effort into making this as feature rich as possible without over complicating the system. Virtually everything on the site can be modified within the Wordpress dashboard with no HTML knowledge needed which is always my main focus.

I look forward to your feedback.

All the best,
Mike.

Re: PIPS 2.0 Update

A few more additions have been made to WP-PIPS 2.0, every time I think I am close to releasing it I end up adding more to it. I don't want to over complicate the site though so I am just working on the order form now so that I can start taking orders. That's of course if anyone is interested!

Cheers,
Mike.
