GetResponse subscriber tracking
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

Hello.
I am new to PIPS and GetResponse, and I am trying to track the source for all of my subscribers.
I have had some success, but something is puzzling me - I have a GetResponse campaign that was set up when I joined PIPS, and my understanding until recently was that every prospect who requests my free newsletter gets added to this campaign.
This works fine when a subscriber (me when I test it) subscribes via my web site (via "Subscribe to our Home Business Tips Newsletter for FREE today ($147.00 value!"). I see the subscriber in my "active subscribers"list in GetResponse.

However, when the subscriber comes from my PIPS Sales page (via "TIP: Before you dive in and read all the exciting details - Sign up for my Free Home Business Secrets Mini-Course") I do not see them as an active subscriber. The GetResponse support people tell me that this is because subscribers coming via the PIPS Sales pageare subscribing to the Stone Evans "homebizsecrets" campaign and not to my campaign.

So, my question is how do I track subscribers that come via my PIPS Sales page?
Thanks for any advice.

This is what you would need to do...

1. Go to your PIPS sales page
2. Right click on the page and view source
3. Copy the URL which looks like http://www.pluginprofitsite.com/main-12345
4. Load the URL in your browser
5. Right click on the page again and view source
6. Select all code and copy to a text doc on your desktop
7. Rename doc to pips.html
8. Create a new GetResponse campaign
9. Copy messages from Stones autoresponder into the campaign
10. In the pips.html file search for "homebizsecrets" and replace it with the name of the campaign you created in GetResponse
11. Replace the existing pips.html file with the new one

The only disadvantage of this is that you will need to updae the page yourself whenever Stone makes any changes. However you can now alos add tracking to the page as well which I believe makes it well worth it.

That's a good tip, Mike. That would work for tracking purposes. However, that would be quite tedious because you would have to be subscribed to that newsletter so you can load those messages in your own campaign. That equals a lot of work!

Stone is already advertising your affiliate links within that newsletter, so you're not missing out in terms of someone signing up through it. If you're that concerned about tracking those people, it'll be a lot of extra work that really isn't necessary. As a "newbie," you would be wise to spend your time doing more productive things such as marketing your business.

As you get traffic to your site, then you can start tracking your traffic and any sales that result.

All the best,

Alan

Hi Alan,

The original point of the post from my understanding is so that you own the leads rather than Stone, not about tracking. I think if you are putting in the hard work sending traffic to the page you should own any leads generated.

You can still track visitors to the page without doing the steps above, you just add your tracking to the code below the iframe, however you can't track actual submissions (conversions). This needs to be added to the submission button code. I created a video yesterday showing how to do it but my computer crashed and I lost it. I will have another shot at it soon.

I think tracking should be the first thing which is implemented otherwise you are marketing "blind". There is a huge amount of valuable data which you can obtain from Google Analytics. If I am spending money on advertising I want to know what is working and what isn't.

Hi Mike,

My understanding was that it was for tracking only. I could have been mistaken.

I agree that owning them would be better, and yes, tracking is very important. GA is a lot easier to install and use for the time being while they start to grow their business. If you're spending money on advertising, then yes, track it. I prefer not to spend money on advertising and advise others just beginning in this business to hold off and learn some free marketing methods instead.

Your video would be great as I'm now interested in implementing this, but seem somewhat confused with your steps in terms of where to place the tracking code.

Hi Mike and Alan,
Thank you for your responses. Mike hit the nail on the head - I am paying for advertising and I need to assess the ROI of my investments.

Mike, your comment about "you just add your tracking to the code below the iframe" sounds good, but my understanding is that we have no way to edit the PIPS Sales page. We can customise our main site, but the PIPS Sales page is out of our reach. Is this correct?

Thanks
Ken

It seems I was mistaken. LOL.

You CAN edit the sales page. Load the page in your browser and then go up to View, then Page Source. Copy and paste the page source in an HTML editor. Make the changes then upload the new page to your server and save it as whatever you want. Hope that helps.

Thanks Alan. I like your solution. I will need to find all inbound references to pluginprofitsite.com/main-<my PIPS number> to make sure I don't break anything.

Yeah, as Mike said just make sure to keep up to date with any changes Stone makes if you plan on doing any extensive changes to it. I used to cloak every link and keep up with the changes, but Stone kept changing it, and it's a pain to go through it all.
