I use a link machine to manage my reciprocal links with other sites. Is there a advantage in placing other sites links on Home page instead as some people recommends. I would like expert views on this.

A lot of people have different views on this one, but personally I will only put reciprocal links on a separate links page never on my home page. You will find that a lot of link software uses link directorys that rank badly and this could affect your own page rank if you link to them. The only links I would put on my home page would be links with high ranking sites - preferably no 1s and 2s in google which will improve your ranking as well. Then there is the argument about having 100s of links to your sites will always benefit. This is only my personal experience and there will be a lot of people in here that will have views, I just happen to be the first to pop in here and start |

I was wondering about this subject as well. I plan on putting together a page of links. That just seemed to me to be the best way to do it, though I am not an expert. I have heard that having more then 100 links to other sites per page can negatively effect your pagerank.

@chanano: I don't see any reason why linking out from your home page is going to benefit you in any way, it will benefit the person you are linking to but not your own site (unless you have some special reciprocal linking arrangement as some sites do). The more links you have on a page the less value each one potentially has therefore you may also be devaluing your own internal links. My advice would be if you are using reciprocal linking then keep the links on a separate page and make sure you only trade links with sites which have decent PR and have been around for a while. @Mark: I don't believe linking to sites with low PageRank is going to hurt your own rankings in anyway. Only if the site has been deindexed from Google altogether are you likely to get any penalty. I think you should use a reciprocal linking tool which tells you the PR of the sites you are linking to and confirms that they are still linking back. I am not sure if Linkmachine does that but there are some that do. I don't think there is any doubting the fact that the more links you have pointing to your site the better and Google can't really penalize you for links to your site they can only devalue them. @s_anthony: LinkMachine is a semi automated reciprocal linking software. LinkMachine - Complete SEO Reciprocal Link Exchange Software, Search Engine Optimization Tool it's been around for a long time and doesn't seem to have changed at all which makes me wonder if it is still effective or not. Regards, Mike. |

I use Google analytics quite a lot have run reports on page quality. One of the problems noted was that I have over 100 links on my home page. It appears Google wants 100 or less. But, I have never removed any and I have not lost page rank. Others have commented as well and said they did not loose and PR or search position with over 100 links. Mike is right in that the links are not going to help you except in my case where all links are either to sites I am an affiliate of or CPA companies. I would never just put reciprocal links on my home page. I have a separate directory that comes with Joomla where I categorize each link. Also, I don't do reciprocal linking. All the links I have added are from IM friends just to give them another backlink. Steve |
