PayPal Scam alert! It is better to just delete them because PayPal will never send an email addressed "Dear Customer" - they always put Dear "your name". In fact to be on the safe side never access your PayPal account from a link in an email. Cheers for now Cyn |
Re: PayPal Scam alert! Hi Graham, I have gotten emails like that in the past. Sometimes the browser will recognize that it's a phishing site and will allow you to report it. I think that was through IE 7. That's if you even want to click on the link. Clicking on the link won't do any harm. It's better to go to the site directly, though. Anyway, follow Cyn's great advice. |

Re: PayPal Scam alert! Thankfully I've not been getting any of these emails lately but was getting several a day. Never click the links in these types of emails and as already stated send them to spoof@paypal.com I got so many that I quit sending them to spoof until they sent me a different one(spoof email). Paypal and eBay will always use your user name then use your real name to identify legit emails from them. |

Re: PayPal Scam alert! Yes... I too got similar mail from paypal fraudulence sites. Recently I received similar mail for my hotmail account to click a link in the mail to increase my inbox storage size. Webmasters should be very careful in dealing with such BOGUS mails. |

Re: PayPal Scam alert! Clicking the links won't do anything. It's when you enter your information in the page after clicking on those links is when you get screwed. Use some common sense when you see emails like this. Most companies will never ask for personal information in an email. |
Re: PayPal Scam alert! Hello: I receive those fake mails from "PayPal" once or twice a month. Also from a variety of other reputable companies. I never click the links - I just delete and block the emails. It's too bad because there may be times when a legitimate company MIGHT be sending me something of interest or value. But I am getting so I just don't trust anything coming from a company that normally does not send me email info. GT :) |

Hi Graham, Yes I received and e-mail like that the other day and just forwarded the e-mail to spoof@paypal.com.The real paypal sent me and e-mail and told me that they did not send out the e-mail and to be very careful and to just delete it. It looked very suspcious to me so I'm glad I used caution and did'nt go any further with it. Dianne |

Re: PayPal Scam alert! PayPal will never ask you to log into your account from an email link. If you do get any sorts of messages from them or someone who pretendss to be them in the future, I would encourage you to enter www.paypal.com in your browser and make sure that it reads https://www.paypal.com If you get an email that asks you to click on the link to go to your PayPal account, delete that RIGHT AWAY. It is SPAM and it is not really coming from PayPal itself. PayPal also claims that they WILL NEVER send you a link through email to log into your account. Tal |

Re: PayPal Scam alert! I receive those often. And if you pay someone money through Paypal it really is like paying cash. Paypal cannot return the money to you, unless they get the money back from the person you sent it to. And if there is no money in their account then you get no money. Other than 'pressure them' there is not much Paypal can do. I lost a chunk of money that way - because I thought it was secure like a credit card but it wasn't. |

The only way the purchaser is protected is through eBay. If you don't receive the item or it's not as described, PayPal will get you your money back, whether the other person likes it or not. In my opinion PayPal is awesome, and the easiest way to pay for stuff online. Plus, you don't have to give your credit card or bank info to the other person. |
Re: PayPal Scam alert! These scams tend to come in waves and I got several of these emails in recent weeks. Always be sure to report it to PayPal. They have a good history on following up on these scams. |
Re: PayPal Scam alert! Just make it a rule that you'll never click on an email link for things like paypal or merchant and bank accounts and you'll be fine. These services usually have built in messaging facilities and any important messages are made obvious to you after logging in. But ALWAYS log in on trusted links (ie, bookmarks or by physically typing in the URL) This will save a lot of paranoia and potential heart ache (and money loss!) |

Hi again Graham: I received a few fake emails from the Pay Pal impostors and one thing that gave it away before I even deleted the message unopened was the email came to an account that I have never used for Pay Pal or any business transactions! Pay Pal several months ago did have some internal message when I logged on to the site about the scams and measures people should take.
