comments in my website
Share on:

Hi

Can someone tell me if it is helpfull to have a comment option available in my website, and if approving comments with links will be helpful to me or not. I have been approving some and deleting others but I am not sure if I should be considering them.

Karabo.

Comments with links are good and important to create more back links.

Delete any that don't directly relate to your site/niche or actually say something relevant.

It helps to get a spam plug-in so at least you will have less to wade through - good idea to moderate all comments (approve or delete) before they are posted..

No! That is about as spammy as they come. Never approve totally general comments that really have nothing to do with your post and at the same time they throw in links to their site.

Actually you should even edit your post above and take out their links. You are doing nothing but helping them by posting their links here. And you don't want to help spammers!

Have you heard about a WordPress plugin called Akismet? Try search about it, I'm sure it will help you a lot in managing the comments in your blogsite.

Akismet is great but it won't catch all the spam. I like to use it in conjunction with one or two other comment spam blockers. Even then it won't get them all but it will be close.

Hello,

This is what I am doing today. Approving and changing comments so they are intelligent, not spammy, and offer something to my readers.

Its just part of the business!

Take care

Hi

Thanks for the responses. I actually have an option to moderate and decide whether to approve or not. I still have some that can be very confusing, there is a hint of spam but there is also a hint of genuine comment. I have heard of risky neighbourhoods or something like that where linking to wrong links can get you in truoble with google. does that mean I have to be extra careful in accepting comments with links.

Thanks.

In my experience if there is even a hint of spam then it is indeed spam! The spammers have gotten good at making comments look legit so don't give them the benefit of the doubt.

Hi

It is important to keep commenting facilities in your website for SEO purpose. You also can judge your site quality from the comments even you can grow relationship with your person. However, you should read all the comments before approving one. Most of the comment you will get from auto-comment posting software. Auto posted comments are easy to detect. Reading a comment you will understand easily that that comment is done without reading your post. Simply delete those.

I use NoSpamNX quite a bit and it works well. Just search the wordpress plugin database and there are several good ones.
