I have noticed that a lot of PIPSters have a bunch of keyword anchored links at the bottom of their home pages with different (but usually similar) anchor texts and all (or most) of them are pointing to their home page. You should never have a bunch of keyword phrases all stuffed together with links pointing to your home page. Google does not like that at all and they could get you for keyword spamming. I'm not sure why so many PIPS owners do this. Maybe they are being told to do it or maybe they saw a high profile PIPSter doing it and copied them. I don't know but whatever the reason for it, you should stop doing it right away. Just a heads up to anyone who is doing that on their site. |

Tanny is right. You don't have to take them all off but you shouldn't have a bunch of them. A few are ok. And if you want the links on there for extra keywords then point them to other pages of your site.

Hi, Trent: I started thinking about that awhile ago: why do I have links on my homepage pointing back to my homepage?? Or why do I have links on any page pointing back to that same page? Lately, I've been trying to watch for that and point those links to other pages. There is the occasional exception to the rule, of course, but as you and Tanny have pointed out, if you do it at all, do it minimally. GT |

Usually your menu will always include a link to whatever page you are on and putting your keywords in the menu links makes sense. But, I agree with Trent, having lots of links on a page, back to that same page with lots of keywords is just an obvious spamming technique and the search engines can spot that pretty easily. Is 5 too many? LOL That totally makes sense to me and something I'll keep an eye on. My website has just managed to get on page 1 of Google for my main keyword. Perhaps getting rid of a few of those links might help even more? |

Hi Trent: When you mentioned that Google could get the culprits for keyword spamming is it possible these people are told that they should play the game until caught? Let's say somebody had a site and was flagged for the keyword spamming what is the end result from Google? Thank you for the information. |

Jeff is correct, you probably wouldn't be banned forever but you could be for a while. It's not worth the risk!
