Question On Pinging My Blog
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

Hi Pipsters,
I have a question on blog pinging. Is it better to ping just the blog url such as example

MyDomain.com/blog

or is it better to ping the url for the blog article such as example

MyDomain.com/blog/articletitle ???

Thanks,
Dave

It is better to ping the article, MyDomain.com/blog/articletitle, that way it is a new page each time.

Good question, Dave, and thanks for the answer, Steve. I've been wondering about this, too.

It makes sense to ping the article, but I wasn't sure if the pinging services allowed that. But really, when you think of it, what's the difference (to them) between pinging one web page or another? It shouldn't make any difference.

Thanks again, guys.

If you get a Wordpress blog, there is a plugin which will ping automatically whenever you publish a post....does it on autopilot so takes away one less chore.

Hi, Graham:

How many ping services or sites does that Wordpress plugin ping to?

(I still don't have a Wordpress blog, despite the fact SO many people say so many things about it. Just too busy to start it, I guess.)

I would like to know which is the better blog to use for PIP, I see Blogger is recommended, but you still have to ping Bloggger, were as Wordpress it automatically pings for you everytime you make a new post which is great, because being in the Co-op if you signed up for that, then you don't have to worry about anything, you get (2) articles to your blog and with Wordpress it pings automatically.

I might be leaning toward switching to Wordpress can I please get some expert forum advice please?

WordPress is just much more versatile and easier to control than Blogger. Google seems to like self-hosted WP blogs more than Blogger and you have complete control of a WordPress blog unlike Blogger.

The list of sites to automatically ping in WP is controlled by you. It only has one site installed by default so you need to put yours in. I have a long list that I install when I setup WP blogs and there is no limit to how many you can use. A long list will slow down the publishing process, which is not a really an issue.

Hi Pipsters,

I am glad I have started an interesting thread here that has brought up a few issues. Houdy made a comment "Google seems to like self-hosted WP blogs more than Blogger." I thought that Blogger was started by Google and yet Google favors WP. I am using Blogger at the moment and I have been too busy to start up a WP blog. Is it worth the time and effort and will it improve my Google search ranking? ( I am ranked around 21 or 22 at the moment.)

I know this topic comes up here and on many other forums about Blogger VS WordPress for blogging. While I could run down the list here is the same topic on very active blogging forum. See for yourself what most bloggers think about the two:
Blogger or self hosted wordpress?

Hi Dave,

I checked your blog and you've got some pretty good content there. Congratulations too on your Google rankings.

This is just an opinion: If your current blog (it's self-hosted anyway) is already doing well then why risk messing up a good thing? You can just continue the right things you're doing with your blog/site...building good back links and adding great contents.

You can always start a new WP blog (but make sure it's in a different C-class IP address) when your time permits it. Then you'll have another good source of back links which you can control.

I haven't started my blog(s), but this is how I plan to manage it.

Good luck.
