For all those who have Skype/MSN

Hi all! I noticed a LOT of us have Skype and MSN and many other various Instant Messaging and Social Networking sites listed. I created a Skkype account specifically for SFI, before I joined PIPS of course and I added a few people from SFI to my messenger to make for easier communication and just getting to know one another. I love getting to meet new people and, whether business related or not, it's quite fun to talk to a variety of people from different places and different walks of life. Anyway, I just wanted to say that I'd be happy to add anyone to Skype/MSN if they'd like to communicate outside the forum. I am guessing posting your actual details is prohibited, but I haven't seen it anywhere. Anyway though assuming that I won't post mine, but if anyone wants to get me via PM I can give it there. It doesn't matter if you want me to help you, you want to help me, or you just want to shoot the breeze! It seems to me that in any business, networking is a very important thing, and it's pretty fun personally too! Well anyway, regardless of whether you use one of those or whatever, feel free to PM me at any time for any reason. It'll give me something to do when I'm not working to promote my currently stagnant business.

HI Amanda - I agree Skype is the best thing since sliced bread. I also use Yahoo IM.

All people need to do is click your Skype icon under your user name to make contact/be added to your list.

I removed mine however, because I guess being a moderator everyone with questions on the Warrior Forum was Skyping me to pitch me or ask questions.

I am the PIPS Mod and PIPS Helpdesk, but do not support the entire Warrior Forum and just plain don't have time for anybody but PIPS and my also "currently stagnant (IM) business".

I enjoy Skype for training and all sorts of things where you can send files and links right in the conversation whether you are talking or texting - so much cooler than 'I will email you blah blah blah' - One program where I am a trainer, we have a group text chat for trainers going all the time.

I tell you what I tell myself - every spare moment, blog blog and then blog more... best free advertising there is and very effective for SEO.

Pat

Okay, I take it back! I am NEVER using Skype again, except my current Skype-In and Skype-Out uses. When those expire, I am NOT renewing. I am UNINSTALLING Skype.

Lots of people don't read the agreement in full, if at all, and there's a little section fairly far down that everyone should know about if they don't.

If you want to read aobut this little known clause, assuming you didn't read the entire terms to begin with, here's a link about it.

Stupid thing is everyone agrees to it! Well, this little pawn is not agreeing any more!

That's fine with me and I think since Skype let's us have unlimited international long distance for free (PC to PC not PC to phone)- well nothing is really free - so if I need to give up some resources in exchange that's cool with me.

... I also have always understood it is a memory hog and that is why I bought more RAM...

I was too quick to jump. It turns out that the fix doesn't work and is out of date.

I do not approve of Skype using my bandwidth and taht is why I am removing it after my Skype In/Out has expired.

For ordinary PC to PC calling, they should just use their own bandwidth and upgrade when necessary. After all, they're making enough money off people buying skype in/out, they can't say they don't have the funds to do it. On top of that, they are owned by eBay, so there shouldn't be any shortage of funds at all!

As for PC to Phone calling, people are paying for their service, so they shouldn't have their resources hogged up.

At the very least they should make people who buy Skype In/Out not have their bandwidth used for as long as they have the service.

Either way, I have 2 Gigs of Ram and am on a 10MB connection and I still notice the difference from time to time. That's not cool! And, what about those who are on dial up or have little ram? They have to suffer even more for it. For me, my connection just slows down from time to time and it eats resources, but for someone who's computer and internet connection aren't as good as mine, it'd really stink!

There are plenty of VOIP programs that don't use your bandwidth for other users. Granted most of them that I know of aren't that good, but I'm just more motivated to test out other programs and find one that is as good as Skype without that little added annoyance.

Thanks for sharing, Zhuuraan! Good to know about Skype. I agree, most people have no idea about this.

VOIP is a far better option than Skype in my opinion. I have naked DSL and use a couple of VOIP providers and get my calls very cheap. If i used services like e164.org and Voxalot then most of my calls would be free. I can use a softphone and headset like Skype or just use my normal phone which plugs into my DSL modem which supports VOIP.

Hi,

I use Skype and have no real issues from it except when getting calls from overseas which can bring a little static.....

I cant complain too much as it is free...LOL

Take care
