Blacklist

Just a heads up to check if your website is on a blacklist.
You can do a quick check at Sucuri Security

I always scan a site in a forum signature before I visit it to check if the site has malware.

Today, one of two sites is reported as blacklisted and the second site has Twitter links to blacklisted sites!

Just a few words of caution if you value your domain names and depend on traffic from search engines:

1) Once a site is blacklisted it is very difficult and sometimes impossible to have it removed from a blacklist.

2) Once a search engine finds that a domain is on a blacklist the domain is typically removed from the search engine.

3) Once a search engine finds links from your domain to blacklisted domains your own domain is typically removed from the search engine.

4) Hosts have 'Terms of Service' or 'TOS' and most hosts terminate hosting plans with or without notice when a domain is blacklisted.

The list goes on, but those are the main consequences of a domain that is on a blacklist.

Hope this helps.

Hi Roger,

The site in your signature looks fine even with the maintenance script. However, it would be a good idea to temporarily disable the script and run the scan if you have not already.

Yes, good tip to scan client's external links. I also scan client's internal links for the same reasons.

Thanks Jeffery for this useful post. I have checked my PIPS site using the tool and I found the words "Site blacklisted, malware not identified". However, when I checked with Google Webmaster Tools (GWT), I didn't see any indicator that it's blacklisted. What could be the real status? And if it's found to be real, what can be done immediately?

Hi Goleza,

Google Webmaster Tools is not the method to identify a site that is blacklisted.

Follow the links..

Your site is blacklisted and if you continue your search by clicking the link "Blacklist Status" you will find that your site is blacklisted at McAfee: Domain blacklisted by SiteAdvisor (McAfee): cashwithgoleza.com - reference

cashwithgoleza.com | McAfee SiteAdvisor Software
cashwithgoleza.com

McAfee Trusted Source web reputation analysis found potential suspicious behavior on this site which may pose a security risk. Use with caution.

"Potential suspicious behavior" is the reason the site is blacklisted and that could be anything, so you need to contact McAfee or Securi to find out the specifics, fix the issue and have your site removed from McAfee. You need to do this before your site is added to other blacklisting sites.

What happens with McAfee Site Adviser is when people have it installed on their PC and attempt to surf to your site they will be alerted by McAfee to a potentially harmful site

The good news is McAfee is an authority site and you can work with them. Other blacklisting sites may be impossible to resolve issues.

Tip. When I visited your site I noticed the site does not load in the browser on the first instance, i.e. a script is loading first. Possibly the corner ad script. That is considered "Potential Suspicious Behavior". However, I suspect the real issue is much deeper.

Good luck,
Jeffery 100% :-)

Thanks Jeffery,

How do I contact MacAfee to see if they can sort it out? I have desabled the script, does the site still not load in the browser on the first instance?

Secondly, I noticed that the number inbound links to my site is decreasing instead of increasing, do you think it's because of this? If not what else causes it?

Hi Goelza,

Follow this link to contact McAfee:
cashwithgoleza.com | McAfee SiteAdvisor Software

The site loads on the first instance now.

I don't know why your links are decreasing, but links to blacklisted sites can be de-indexed, so maybe that is the reason.

I have succeeded in fixing the McAfee blacklist issues and my site is now so safe. I have decided to protect it with the services of sucuri. Thanks Jeffery once again for your support.
