Can you build an mlm business completely online?

I was doing some research about mlm on this forum and came across a few successful guys posts doing mlm and they said "don't think about trying to build an mlm business online".

Isn't that what PIPS is doing? Can we build this business using only the Internet?

More than likely if you didn't misconstrue what they said, they are selling something that has to do with offline business? Or in their OPINION you need to do both off and online advertising.

Please quote whatever it is you are referring to.

OK back to the issue - you are misconstruing what he is saying, dear.

OK - what he is saying is using mass mailing strategies with for example safelists to and from unknown people is not how you do it. You build a RELATIONSHIP. (but you have to start somewhere and that is a list).

Now this may again confuse you since Stone says he gets 80% of his money from email marketing - but he has been at this for years and years and he does have a RELATIONSHIP - however remote - his name is recognized, he keeps in touch with his list all the time - not just the newsletter series, but sending them other broadcasts, etc.

Network Marketing while akin to Internet Marketing will have you calling people on the phone, hosting webinars, etc - this is another way to build a RELATIONSHIP.

That's all this guy is saying - and while I agree to some extent, don't tell me that somebody with a list of 10,000 like some guys I know have called every one of them because that is impossible.* But if you called 100 and they called 100 who called a 100 on and on then you are building a NETWORK. (work WITH your downline)

CALL YOUR DOWNLINE- HELP THEM OUT. BE THERE FOR THEM. HAVE A PULSE. OR YOU MAY LOSE THEM.

(* and seriously when people say 'call your leads' I will privately ask them - did you call all your leads? The answer is HECK NO. But they did call some and periodically still do - and THE KEY IS once you get them to respond, KEEP IN TOUCH.

Even if you keep this strictly on the Internet - (because I will hang up on you if you call me and I don't know you and/or didn't ask me if you could call)

Anyway strictly on the internet and by online strategies - social networking, blogging and commenting, forums, web conferences, email marketing and phone by invitation only, you can reach about a gigabillion more people than you can with what?! phones? flyers? junk mail? coupons?

I mean what are you going to do???? Why do you think #1 the average time for an offline business to see a profit is 5 years!? What do you imagine it would cost you to send postal mail instead of email? paper, stamps, printer ink, etc?

So I think what this guy is saying is true - that you need to build a relationship - and you could read my post here if you would because I mention what NETWORKING is about (building relationships) and the difference between that and selling.

Bottom line is there are no absolutes - plenty of people build businesses only on the internet - but then sometimes it is not just a matter of spamming emails to unknown people. There is more to it than that.

p.s. keep this in mind. MLM has a black eye because of pyramid and ponzi schemes and disreputable people using the MLM model. There is nothing intrinsically evil about MLM - every sales organization in the world has some level of MLM.

So you have ignorant people who want to paint every MLM business with the same brush - Show them that you are legitimate - say what you mean and mean what you say - be honest - no guarantees - you have to do the work - no magic here - etc.

A lot of network marketers go to the Internet out of weakness. They go because they are scared to get better at the core principles, at the core fundamentals for success in network marketing - building relationships with people. The truth is, online network marketing is almost the same with its offline counterpart. You will still deal with "people". Network marketing is a "people business", whether it is online, or offline.

There are plenty of people who do their business online and are earning a very nice income. I really think that you can make the same or even more money online then you would offline by doing all those things like going to meetings, contacting everyone who is 3 feet away from you, etc.

This is the beauty of the internet.
