New Affilliate Marketeer

This is my first attempt at creating my own website and attempting to make a few bucks with Affiliate Marketing. I am not looking to get rich. I just would like to pull in a few extra dollars each month. I have chose Pet Products as my nich. Being new at this I know that I have alot to learn from those of you who are seasoned marketers. I do believe I have a good site and have chose some of the best companies offering affiliate programs. I would like to hear from anyone who might have suggestions on the best way to advertise my site. I am currently using FaceBook ads and have gone through optindatalist.com for my email ads. I also have created a FB page. My site is Tinyguy.com - Meet Tinyguy - Paradise Valley, AZ

Hey there Mike,

Good job on taking action and getting into the mix of things, so well done for that to start off.

I checked out your site, and the first thing I would say is to scrap the intro page. You don't need to have a "enter page"; people have gone to your site to see your site, not to see your door, right? If you are selling a product, you want that to be in the face of the customer right away; and by putting a enter page in, you are putting a barrier between you and the customer. A lot of people may disagree, but I think in this business you need to do little tweaks like this to get the best results.

Also think about the layout of your website. When I go into your homepage, I can not see your products, or any images of the products, so me as a viewer have to go and find the products. This is not good because again you want the products to be visible you see? The form you have is right in the peripheral point that a viewer first looks on a website; instead that should be your CONTENT. Think about moving your contact form to a whole separate page, and on your home page, talk about the products you are selling, with images and links to the products.

^ Do these things before driving traffic. Make sure your website is fully ready before driving traffic.

How you can get traffic? Well there are several forums on the pet products niche. Just like you have people selling internet marketing products on this forum, you can go to forums and contribute to peoples threads, whilst leaving a link in your signature. So if you go to the forums, leave valuable comments (not just "hey check out my site"), then people may click into your page to see what you are about.

You can also go to blogs about pet products and again leave valuable comments on their blogs. You can also write articles about pet products with links back to your page, you can also create a squidoo lens with a link back to your page.

Hope that gives you some ideas.

That is awesome to hear! Smart move in asking those that are where you would like to go. I would like to know how you got turned on to affiliate marketing? It is a good way to make an extra few dollars if you know what you are doing. With that said, it looks like you are taking the free promotion approach. This approach is great but don't expect bigger results quickly...especially if you are using Facebook, SEO (search engine optimization), and other free promotion tactics.

After taking a look at your site, I would like to suggest the following:

1. The url of your site should have the word of your niche in it. It will help rank you higher in search engines and give prospective visitors an idea of what your site is about before they click on it.

2. Add some content to the links on your site. For example, write a review of a product or site with links to your affiliate page plugged throughout. Add value to people's lives and they will give gratitude in clicking your link and buying from you. This will also help you rank higher in search engines

3. Get personal - share some personal stories in your posts and emails to you subscribers. People like to buy from people they know like and trust. This creates money on command for you if you keep a good relationship with your list. Your subscribers will come back again and again when you have something to offer that suits their needs if they know, like and trust you.

4. I don't know how much you are paying for your hosting, autoresponder, training, and such but you shouldn't be spending too much on those things. It should be between $10-15 for all of those things combined. I made the mistake of paying about $100 for all my necessary tools at the beginning and made things a lot harder then they needed to be. GVO offers a pretty good package that I wish I found starting out.

These are just a few things I feel that will get you and the right path to making money in this game. So be patinent because it takes time, but make sure you enjoy the ride (ups and downs) because you are now an entrepreneur.
