Host4profit updates to php5
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

Hi,

all pipsters have already taken notice of this, I guess.
Host4Profit updates to PHP5.
I wonder if there are going to be problems with Linkmachine or article directories that are php4.

When I log in to linkmachine, I experience error messages when I want to accept other sites that want to link to my site.
Does anybody around here have some advice on how to deal with this?

cheers,
Nirusan

Yes just respond as to whether you want to link with that site or not.

They will get you 'instant links' which you don't respond to (except to delete if unmatched to your niche) and some which require your response. This depends on how you have your settings set at LinkMachine.

That is not an error message and has nothing whatsoever to do with the upgrade at Host4Profit.

So far the only problems due to the necessary upgrade, that I have heard of are with WordPress sites.

I had Houdy fix all 3 of mine.

Some servers and sites were down for a while the last day or so.....

Well they seemed to blame all the problems on me and the fact that I had to work around a few limitations on the servers to get WordPress to function properly (like it does on all other hosts without any modifications). So I guess you can blame me if you want to, yes I brought all H4P severs down. Funny... I contacting them about various functions that would not work on WordPress blogs but they never updated anything until when a server went down by a hacker. "If it wasn't for the damn guy pushing people to more than a static HTML site everything would have been fine...." Yep thats me! A little forward thinking on someones part might have avoided some of the server problems this weekend.

The update should be seamless and is actually something, along with a few other things H4P should have done a long, long time ago.

Host4Profit has hundreds of servers.

They are of different ages and types. Not all sites are set up on the same servers. So some things that affect some sites don't affect others.

'Management by Exception' is the way many businesses function - that means don't worry about it unless it breaks.

Having said that I definitely don't see how anyone can blame you, Houdy, because you installed their WordPress and then later PHP did an upgrade and Host4Profit updated their system accordingly.

Like how would you have anticipated that? How would Host4Profit anticipate that for that matter?

Pat, exactly, how would I know but thanks. Based on the email I got... It's all my fault. Bluehost is looking good and a lot cheaper to me right now!

Hi Nirusan,
H4P wrote in their announcement that some sites that are php4 might not work with the new server update.

Hi Tanny,

yes, I heard that and I´m a bit worried having 3 wp blogs hosted at host4profit.
Maybe Ken knows more about how to deal with this.

see ya,

Houdy, how dare you do that.

You are right, this update has been needed for a long time. A lot of Joomla sites had big problems because they wouldn't update so some customers have moved on.

Luckily I didn't have any problems with my site or Blogs. Actually I didn't know anything was going on until I read this.

Note: I've clicked on several blogs in this forum to see if there were any problems and I haven't seen any.

Can anyone help please?

When I click on page 2 or 3 of my article directory I get this message:-

'406 Not Acceptable
An appropriate representation of the requested resource /administrator/index.php could not be found on this server'.

I have no idea what to do.
Thankyou

Barb

Hi Barb, I had the same problem and H4P fixed it in about 10 minutes. If you do not have it back to normal yet just send them a support ticket. They respond extremely fast.

But, they didn't tell me what went wrong. They just fixed it which is OK by me. I can't really explain how happy and impressed I am with H4P's service.

The upgrade is one that will make your Joomla site much more efficient and is a big plus for us. Things that didn't work or that we had to do a work around to make them work will now respond as they should. I'm happy with the upgrade and H4P for that matter.

Stephen,

Thanks so much for your reply.

I'll get in touch with H4P and hopefully they will sort it as quick as they did for you.
