Thanks for your comments, all. I am active in various places around the Net, but the PIPS/Warrior Forum is where I got my Social Networking start, so this is like "home" to me and I appreciate the support.

YUP. it was my first time too - difference being when i have rarely gone outside warriorworld to find other forums. i never get past the cold bulletin board BB feel.

this is square-one for a lot of us from different spheres..

I hope we will comm @ tweets 2 - i think i am following you 2x as per Ur new 1 yesterday.

i am way back at the very newborn newbie social networking. jeff shuman caught me at a weak (read desperate lol) so i had signed up for twitter.

never went back - and when i did with bill schultz's twitter thread, which spoke to me on the right day (helloitsabouttime) when i have been finally making a concerted effort to get back to promoting the other facets of my business. namely internet marketing en tow'TALL

i had 66 approvals waiting for followers. that really inspired me to embrace this one.

So any way having said all that, I hope you can help me to come out of my shell at social networking. I have an RSS feed somewhere on one of my blogs for Twit, and I have the Twit account, following and followed.

I am not sure about the tender balance /gray area said/unsaid with regard to protocol.

It is not an ad board like a forum is not; it is just 'comments' (?)

however, there must be the usual discreet out of my face internet marketing way (?)
= THE LINE you don't cross.

What I mean is give info/chat it up speaking to no one and everyone; link optional, but if yes, then only in the sense of (eg a forum signature file) (?) (covert-ad)

so far I have only tweeted my blogs - i think i am at 3 of 5 - so that's as far as my 'ads' go. however with niche blogs now there ya go an ad is an ad is an ad... (?)

i have found some cool sites on enhancements/accessories for twitter. like this guy from either this twitter thread or the one in the off topic asylum.

Aside from forum activity, I've been extremely slow to get on the Social Networking bandwagon too. And like you, it was Jeff Schuman who kept priming me to join Twitter, then it was Cyn Minnaar who finally caught me on my "right day" and and I bit the bullet and joined ... and then I got hooked!

I haven't taken the time to learn how to use any of those Twitter tools or utilities or anything. I do everything manually and just do the basic social networking thing. My blog post of April 21 gives a bit of a rundown of how I approach it.

As you have pointed out, unlike a forum that has defined rules of protocol, on Twitter you are free to express yourself however you want to. However, in my opinion, for best effect you should mix your Twitter tweets with a variety of strictly informative or inspirational posts, plus retweets of other member tweets, plus a few of your own blog links, sales pages, etc., mixed in every now and again.

In a sense, it is self-regulating in that if you post too much self-serving commercial stuff, other members will unfollow you and you don't want that, so be diligent in offering value and being generally friendly so that your followers will be more tolerant of your commercial-type tweets. That's my opinion.

I'll watch for your tweets on both of my Twitter accounts. See you "over there!"
