Is Your PC Infected with the Conficker Worm? Find Out Here!
Share on:

Get the simple, instant check up - Don't be in denial -

Just because you don't see anything doesn't mean it is not there logging your keystrokes and stealing your passwords.

This is a quote from Warrior Paul Myers TalkBizNewz received today. (Thank you again Paul)

Conficker, considered to be potentially one of the nastiest
worms to hit the Internet in quite a while, has finally woken
up. It's downloading updates, which security analysts suspect
to be keyloggers or other code designed to steal information
from infected machines.

To see if your machine is infected, go to

Conficker Eye Chart

It's an extremely simple test. Load the page and see if you get
all 6 pictures. If you do, you're unlikely to be infected. The
explanation is VERY short, and included on the page.

Feel free to pass that URL around to anyone you like. The more
people know if their systems are infected, the better.

If you find that you're are likely to have the worm on your
machine, immediately disconnect from the Internet. Find a
machine that isn't infected, and get a copy of Microsoft's
Malicious Software Removal Tool.

http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/

Do not reconnect to the Internet until you've run that on the
infected machine.

Hi, Partricia:

Thanks for this info. I have a question. The test mentions proxy servers:

If you can see all six images in both rows of the top table, you are either not infected by Conficker, or you may be using a proxy server, in which case you will not be able to use this test to make an accurate determination, since Conficker will be unable to block you from viewing the AV/security sites.
How do you know if you are using a proxy server? Is that like Host4Profit?

Host4Profit is a host server - your website is on the server.

The kind of proxy this refers to is one that is used by your PC.

You would have to purposely set a proxy. There are different kinds.

You can read about them here:

Proxy server - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

One place you can see one type of proxy that allows you to surf anonymously is here: http://anonymouse.org/anonwww.html

Look at the tracks you leave wherever you go with and without the proxy.

For example here is my trace without the proxy:

IP 98.234.166.38 - (shows my geographical location)
Host c-98-234-166-38.hsd1.ca.comcast.net - (shows my ISP)
Browser & OS
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.8) Gecko/2009032609 Firefox/3.0.8 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) (shows my browser, Windows version etc)

and here is my trace with it: See it changed my IP address

IP 193.200.150.82 (you don't know where I am)
Host anonymouse.org (you don't know my ISP)
Browser & OS http://Anonymouse.org/ (Unix) (or anything else)

and especially not my age or weight lol.

Interesting info about a proxy server. I've always wondered how to set that up to mask my actual IP address. Thanks again, Pat.

Hey - I advise you all to do the check again in 24-48 hours - I have learned that due to caching issues with your ISPs, that you may not see the real deal.

"The thing is that it's already mentioned (in not so many words) in the explanation section of the test page when it talks about proxys and the possible inaccuracy because of using them. The ISP cache would be a transparent proxy, so it would most likely be invisible when the user determines their own IP (such as when using the 'what's my IP' type of sites)."

(oi vey)

just did mine again and still disease free.

McAfee is working overtime - usually they auto-update my system everyday - now it seems like more than once a day!

For all the complaints and bad rap McAfee gets, KNOCK ON WOOD in the 10 or so years I have used them I have never had anything serious.

I have risky behavior too since I have to test every URL on the applications - so hundreds of risks - I could be clicking the URL from hell.
