How Do You Cloak Your Affiliate Link?
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

Hi,

When promoting products from Clickbank and other affiliate networks, I don't hide/cloak my affiliate links...because I don't know how

What's the best way to cloak your affiliate links? RobinInTexas shared the code he's using in another thread (Newbies Beware of Clickbank). I hope he or anybody could share and explain how to use that code here...or are there other ways.

Thanks.

Hey Robert,

I personally use the Web Army Knife. There's an Affiliate Link Cloaker built in which works great. However, I found some sites that do the exact same thing:

Hide or Cloak Your Affiliate Link
The Agile Marketer - Affiliate Link Cloaker

All you do is create a new HTML page or sub directory on your site and paste the code into the new page.

Hope that helps

Here is how I "Mask" an Affiliate Link

Here is a way that I do a redirect page, you can see I do it here:

http://www.PipelineIncomes.com/pips.html

Which does not show an affiliate link, instead points to my affiliate link & takes people
to my PIPS affiliate page. I do the same for other affiliate programs and for some
clickbank products.

You need to do it in your host4profit ePanel

The html you need to add into the file you create looks like this:

Example only!

Step 1: You create a new file, in this example I call it pips.html
Step 2: When that opens to a blank file you will put in the following html

__________________________________________________ _______________________

<HTML>
<HEAD>
<META http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1">
<TITLE>Plug-In Profit Site - Complete Money Making Site Setup FREE!</TITLE>
</HEAD>
<FRAMESET rows="100%" border=0 frameborder=0 framespacing=0>
<FRAME name=top src="http://www.pluginprofitsite.com/main-XXXXX" noresize>
</FRAMESET>
</HTML>

__________________________________________________ __________________________

Step 3 Save File. Test File by placing the new link in your browser to ensure it works.

P.S. Where the XXXXXX is place your PIPS affiliate ID# and you now have a link like
http://www.YourWebsiteName.com/pips.html

P.S.S. All you have to do is change the bolded areas for whatever affiliate program or
clickbank product you want to mask! In addition, make sure to change the url.

Hope this helps,

Hi Bill,

That's a good example. The only thing I don't like about that method is that it uses frames. I know some traffic exchange sites that don't permit the use of frames, if my memory serves me correct.

I'd rather have a bunch of random code that makes it impossible for anyone looking at the source code to tell what the actual URL of the affiliate link is anyway.

For example, go to Affiliate Elite : Affiliate Marketing Software and view the page source. You'll see exactly what I mean.

I also use the method Bill showed, it's a great way, and it looks like the link is on you website.

Another great benefit of having the affiliate page on your domain is that you can build up PR and authority for that page, even though it just redirects to another page. It always looks better to link to a page on your own domain rather than pointing someone to a page that's obviously your affiliate link.

If you are hosting your affiliate page on your website, the web army knife works well, otherwise there are plenty of free membership sites that will cloak your link like viral URL, some text adexchanges like valueaddedads.com and mydlb.com , If you search google you should find several.
Just remember if you cloak thru a membership site and promote your link on say articles and the membership site closes up shop your links become useless.

I created some software that builds the redirects for you, but I've stopped promoting it since I found out that Clickbank penalises affiliates that use framed redirects! If you'd like a copy, please PM me, but be aware that it uses techniques that are "frowned upon"....

I plan to update it with a choice of re-direct methods, but that has to wait until I've launched my new info product.

I would recommend staying away from URL shortening services and membership sites. You're much better off hosting the page on your site for the reasons I mentioned above.

The only way I would recommend using a service or membership site to "cloak" your affiliate link is if you don't have a website of your own.

Thank you all for sharing your methods for doing cloaking and redirects.

I like the idea of using my own domain name for doing this. I'll launch an Adwords campaign using some of the suggestions here and hopefully Google will not flag me. If this goes well, I'll be using it for all my direct-linking campaigns.

That would be what I recommend, Robert. I've never had a problem with Google when I did it that way. Let us know how you make out with it.

You would need your own domain for this, but IMHO the best method

That's the other site I wanted to post here but couldn't find. That will do the exact same thing as the WAK and the other sites posted above. Either one is fine and will do a good job. I recommend this method as well.

Thanks for posting it here.

For Alan or BigG95:

If you use the Free Link Cloaker, what will be your display URL and destination URL for Adwords? The cloaked URL?

When I was using Adwords I used the main domain as the display URL and then the full cloaked URL for the destination.

For example:

Display URL: ReplaceYourSalary.com

Destination URL: ReplaceYourSalary.com/AffiliateElite

Just make sure to use the http://www for the destination URL to work.

For the display URL I recommend capitalizing it like I have it because it stands out and has more of a chance of getting clicked on.

Re: How Do You Cloak Your Affiliate Link?

I use a folder with and index.html inside for my redirects.

Example: your site is calls www(dot)mysite(dot)com
make a folder called "recommends" or whatever you want to call it.

Inside the recommends folder, make another folder for the product or service you are recommending. THe URL would look similar to this:

www(dot)mysite(dot)com/recommends/NAMEofnew folder

Open up dreamweaver or frontpage or whatever you use make your html page. Cut and paste the following code between the head and /head:

<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />
<META HTTP-EQUIV="Refresh"
CONTENT="1; URL=http://XXXXXX.NAME.hop.clickbank.net/">
<title>Name of Product You are recommending</title>
</head>

Save this index.html file in the folder for the product you are recommending.

Put the link on your domain and when people click on it, it will show your domain name/recommends/name of the product/

That's it. if you have and questions, PM me and I'll email you a file so all you have to do is change 2 lines of code and your are in business.

Best of luck.

Hi all,

I'm promoting a product with Clickbank, and want to just use a blog to start with for my product review.
But when I tried out the free link cloakers you recommend on this thread, the address they produce doesn't work.
Where am I going wrong?

What kind of blog are you using, and is it self-hosted?

Hi Alan,
It's on google's blogspot.
I presume that means it's not self-hosted - not really sure what you mean by that.
The trouble with being a beginner is that I'm stumbling around in the dark a lot of the time.
I'm going from one problem to another, and solving them is interesting, although I'm aware how reliant I am on others all the time!
I greatly appreciate the warrior forum members who take the time to answer, and hope to be in a position to do the same for others in the near future.
Thank you all for your help.

Self-hosted just means you have your own domain name and can access your back-office for it. Since it's a blogger blog then it's not, although it's possible to transfer it over.

Here's what you can do:

Option 1: You're using blogger to create a review site for a specific product you're promoting, so just use the blog URL that you send the people to when they click on the ad.

Option 2: Use blogger to redirect to another site, including an affiliate site. This is a little complicated but can be done. First off, create a new blogger blog. Use the keywords in the URL, for instance, http://product-keywords.blogspot.com. You want this to be a brand new account using a different email address. Once you're new blog's setup, follow these steps:
Create a new post and put in the following code:
<META HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" content="0;URL=http://www.replaceyoursalary.com/pips/specialoffer.html">
Create a second post and put in the following code:
<meta equiv="refresh" content="0;URL=http://www.replaceyoursalary.com/pips/specialoffer.html">
You're done. Replace the URL with any site you want to redirect to.

What will happen is your blogspot URL will redirect to the URL you have in the code for the two posts.

Hope that makes sense. If you want a redirect for more products, then just setup another new blog following the same steps. You can do this as many times as you want.

If you're focusing on just one product and want to provide a review, I'd focus on option one. Option two is more for direct linking to the affiliate site.

Hi Alan,

Thank you very much for your detailed explanation.

Just one more query: I am writing a review of a Clickbank product in my blog.
Do I need to cloak the link in the blog to my affiliate site, or is this not necessary?
Surely it looks more professional to cloak it?

Your second option looks a bit scary at this stage for me, but I am good at following instructions, and I can always use it later as I become more confident.

In the meanwhile, I have found a cloaking link which does work on the blog: cloakedlink.com

I am very grateful for your beautifully clear instructions, and hope that you will consider writing a WSO for beginners.

You're welcome.

At this point I wouldn't worry about cloaking your links. Although, it's proven you lose commissions if you don't. If I were you I would use TinyURL.com or something similar to do this for your situation. However, a link like this doesn't look professional, IMO.

If cloakedlink.com is working for you, then by all means you that.

I never thought of writing a WSO... thanks for the suggestion.

Just upload this code to your server
That's it....
I would prefer to have the source code look like that. Then if the people decide to look at the source code, which most savvy users do, they can't tell what the actual link is, or determine anything from the code at all.

If someone is really determined to look at the source code, using javascript to "encrypt" it like that isn't going to make much difference. There's an extension for Firefox that will "decrypt" that code in one click, if I really wanted to hijack your affiliate commissions (not that I would.. but if I wanted to) it wouldn't be too much extra trouble for me to download and install the extension.

That's quite interesting. I didn't know that. It's crazy that they have stuff like that for people that want to do that. I guess thieves will always find a way. How sad.

Pin URL

I have different cloakers but I like PinURL.com - make your URLs shorter!
I can follow my clicks, add names to links and works
with clickbank and paypal.

All I do is use the redirect manager in the WebEpanel. I think Bill touched on this, but I use this for all of my affiliate links and haven't had any problems.

Just my quick 2 cents...
