Writers Block!
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

I have been suffering of late from writers block.....the grey matter just aint functioning like it used to

Admitedly, I have been somewhat busy recently setting up new websites and writing ebooks....but I just can't seem to get motivated to finish any of my present projects..... and it is so annoying!

So, rather than tire my brain out even more ....doesn't take much at my age I have been using my time surfing Traffic Exchanges and posting in forums....hoping to get inspiration.....but no, it aint working.

I need someone to give me a good kick up the but!

Any volunteers?

Graham

Consider yourself kicked Graham!

I was where you are last week, then my computer crashed and I couldn't use it. Instead I had to rely on the good old pen and paper, amazing what happened. I rattled off 20 articles and two press releases (I had never written one before and was floundering).

How about just going outside, enjoy a bit of fresh air and see if the juices start flowing.

Good luck,

Mark

Are you talking about writing your own articles, or rewriting articles? If it's the latter then I'm just finishing off a rewriting tool. You can have this for free if you wanted. If so, pm me.

If it's not the latter, then you'll have to try the fresh air suggestion as mentioned above :-)

Sometimes I just look at old forum posts and turn those into articles.

For me it seems like I have plenty of things to write on but my problem lies with distractions. Ill get all settled down to start writing and focused on what I need to do and then something, anything, will divert my attention and it will take me much longer to finish than I wanted.

Ill just be writing away and then something will pop up in my head like an email I forgot to send or I feel like I have to check my bank balance or daily traffic stats. Things like this keep me from getting more done than needs to be.

Heres a video I ran into dealing with this problem and much more (not an affiliate link) Hope this helps...

Re: Writers Block!

I get my ideas for articles in the following way:

1- When I start a niche I plan the sections I want to write about.
2- When I research the areas I want to write about, I get more ideas and i note those ideas down
3- In my keyword analysis, some keywords that I pass through give me ideas for articles as well. Those keywords might not be keywords that I want to use, but they give me ideas of subjects I can write about using the keywords I am targeting.

Hope this helps

Like with so many other things I plea 'the mother's creed' which is "do what i say not what i do".

Exercises to Break Through Writer's Block

I have writers block myself and i find if that i get inspired if i

1. read something like a good ebook *(yes there are a few) that i get inspired.

Same with videos/movies

Just like they say "if you want to be interesting, be interested".

2. If it is really a ridiculous amount of time I haven't updated my blogs I will force myself to

re-engineer a PLR article,

It is a place to start - some structure or foundation.. You can add sentences, paragraphs, change out words/synonyms, etc while you are proofreading them (as you really should) for grammatical and spelling errors.

3, The very best thing I ever found for writing is

keyword research and drilling down in a keyword niche. Brings up lots if interesting possibilities. Then Google them and also look them up in Wikipedia.

Like this example I give in my web class:

keyword "internet marketing"

= drill down

.internet marketing tools
.internet marketing services
.internet marketing solutions
.internet marketing strategies

- - internet marketing tools (niche) drill down

.autoresponders
.traffic exchanges
.tracking
.article directories
.blogs
.rss
,leads capture
.seo submission

if you Google any one of these you will come up with links to sites where you can read about them and get more ideas.

Another example I like to give -my favorite project when i was writing articles for money.was

=> main keyword "Stained Glass"

.article on each:
.stain glass gifts
.stain glass materials
.stain glass history
.stain glass supply sources
.stain glass window making class

I know it, now if I would JUST DO IT!

Hi Graham,

I get the same thing myself quite a lot these days. Sometimes I just take the easy way out and get articles ghostwritten. Sometimes I try to find inspiration by using the Google keyword tool to see what things people are searching for, or on Twitter to see what the latest hot topics are.

Or how about just taking a notepad and pen outside to some scenic location, breathing in the fresh air, taking in the surroundings and get some writing done at the same time.

Cheers,
Suzanne

Hi Graham

Have you thought about writing about what you have learnt in setting up your new websites and writing ebooks. I am sure that would be info that others would benefit from.

Just a thought.

Cheers for now

Hey, Graham:

What a great list of ideas you have drawn here! What usually happens to me is I struggle to come up with inspiration, then after a long while I turn to a PLR article to try to re-work it, but what usually happens is, once I start writing, my brain takes over and a whole different article materializes than the one I "thought" I was going to be writing! lol

So, for me, sometimes the answer is simply to start writing ... anything ... and that usually gets my brain in gear.

Hi Graham, I work in a library and one of the things that helps me when I get stuck is to flip through all the new magazines and see what catches my eye. Also, I have the caffeinated content plugin for wordpress and I can grab several articles and try to rewrite them. If you have access to any of the academic databases that are online, they can be great to get the ideas flowing.

Hi Graham,

I'm sure your creative writing juices are flowing again with all the great ideas offered by some of our co-members here.

But while reading this thread, I had some sort of an epiphany

A quick solution to writer's block or a source for topic ideas was there staring at me/us in the face. All these times, it's there...right under our nose!

The "PIPS Members: Get Your Hot Blog Backlinks" thread is a treasure chest of ideas written by PIPS members, most I bet are original and/or given enough effort to be unique. PIPS Members wouldn't put garbage in their blogs right?

Imagine a library of almost 1200 unique articles/ideas and growing! We don't have to look far to get ideas for our next article...if we're having writer's block

That's a great tip, Jeff. I did this recently with my "finding a profitable niche" post.

Go to YouTube and turn a video(s) into an article. It's almost like transcribing audio, but with video instead.
